Posted about 5 years ago I understand when people say they get discouraged because my problem is that I live in the bay area in ca and the nursing program is hard to get into even if you have a 4.0 GPA. I have switched my major twice but it always comes back to nursing because it is what I really want to do. The San Francisco State Univ. Nursing program had 1200 applicants but they only accepted 83. Its like that at all the universites. At the community college level, they do lotteries. GPA's do not matter. It's all about the computer randomly picking names. I'm trying to stay focused. I know some people that have been denied twice. They need more nursing programs. The is a nursing shortage because there isnt enough space or teachers. One nurse told me that financially it doesnt make sense to become an educator when nurses make more money working in the hospitals. But I am not going to give up, I will keep trying but it just gets really frustrating. Whenever I become a nurse I want to go and teach at least one course for nursing students. <!-- end of AOLMsgPart_2_f5600262-0fbf-40a4-be2e-3017e188e5e0 -->

| Posted about 5 years ago I feel the same way. I am currently a student at Chabot College, and its hard to work full time, go to classes some-what full time and get that 4.0. And it makes no sense that the very profession that is struggling with filling its positions would be this hard to get close to. But don't give up cause I certainly won't and however you become a nurse it will happen. Keep in touch and stay focused. |
