PLEASE HELP! I am 19 years old from Massachusetts and I am attending a community college taking my gen eds. I want so badly to transfer to a four year school and become a nurse. I would love to be a nurse practitioner, that works in the labor and delivery unit (fingers crossed). I am just having a hard time finding answers. Everyone I talk to basically puts me down saying "nursing programs are very selective, and with you being a transfer student it is going to be very hard to get accepted". I just don't understand how I am going to complete my goal. If anyone has answers, please let me know!

Thank you!

Lisa,  Don't let anyone tell you that you can't get into the program.  Pick your program and schedule an interview.  Discuss what classes you need to take to get into the nursing program.  College is too expensive to go through the entire program at a 4 year university system.   Most nursing students take classes at other institutions than the institution they get their nursing degree from.

YOU GO GIRL!!!  Just keep on line with your goal.  Don't listen to the nay-sayers.

Lisa follow your dreams, I too have been discouraged by university reps that came to my community college but I am going to ignore them and keep heading towards my goal.  Take all your gen ed and prereqs at community college, then that way you can apply to ADN programs and BSN programs.  Just stay positive and get good grades in your science classes.  When you are done apply everywhere you can.  good luck, future nurse!

IF THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE THAT YOU ARE ATTENDING HAS A 2YR NURSING PROGRAM, TRY TO GET INTO THAT, GET YOUR ADRN THEN GO TO A FOUR YEAR COLLEGE THAT HAS A RN -BSN PROGRAM, THAT'S WHAT I AM DOING! GOOD LUCK!

Don't let anyone discourage you, that is what happened to me...and I kick myself for it now.  Keep trying, get your basics out of the way, work hard on those and start applying to four year universities and nursing programs.  Keep your chin up!

The first time I applied to the nursing program I was turned down. I wanted it sooooo bad.  I made an appointment with the Dean and took my 6mo old with me for the interview.  HeeHee.  I got in to the class I was turned down for.  Doubt the baby helped me but dont think it hurt.  Follow your dreams for they will come true.
