PLEASE HELP! I am 19 years old and I am attending a community college taking my gen eds. I want so badly to transfer to a four year school and become a nurse. I would love to be a nurse practitioner, that works in the labor and delivery unit (fingers crossed). I am just having a hard time finding answers. Everyone I talk to basically puts me down saying "nursing programs are very selective, and with you being a transfer student it is going to be very hard to get accepted". I just don't understand how I am going to complete my goal. If anyone has answers, please let me know! Thanks you

I have found some schools to be the same....very selective. Just send out your applications and apply to as many as you can. That special one will be knocking on your door soon.

Good luck. It's a long haul...but so worth it.

I see no reason why you could not transfer. Many do that. I did and I am now an NP

I am in the same boat as well. My goal is to become a Neonatal NP. I am finishing up my prerequisites and gearing up to tranfer to some pretty selective Universities. The key is making yourself an equal competitor. Keep your GPA up and try hard to get it above the admittance requirement. Another thing that helps to set yourself apart from other applicants is community service. Just try to distinguish yourself from others. Don't get discouraged, I hear the same thing all the time but I have worked too hard and come too far to let that stop me. Research the transfer requirements of the schools your interested in, they usually give a lot of tips on what they are looking for. Good Luck.

 Lisa-

Have you spoke with anyone in the nursing schools you are interested in? I know my school says that non-transfer students will be chosen over a transfer but I know a lot of people in my classes that transfered. The key is GPA and overall application. Honeybug is right- make your application stand out from the others. Volunteer at a local hospital if you can. Good luck and keep your head up- with determination you can do it!
