NLN-PAX entry exam...my college is rushing it through

Posted almost 5 years ago Okay here is a question. I am going for my ADN and I have completed some of the core classes. So this evening all healthcare students were required to attend an academic advisory meeting. Now mind you, my first semester of college was in October. I have completed my Eng, Psy and math, but I have to still take A&P I and A&P II...which are the only other core classes. They, for some reason dropped microbiology as a core completative selection class. Weird? I think so. I asked them today, they said I should take the NLN-PAX entry exam this winter, given in January and in February to be ready for the cut off of April 1st to get into nursing school in the fall! BUT WAIT ONE MINUTE! How in the world if I am only going to have A&P I under my belt by the time I take the entry exam, is that going to work. Why is this tech college rushing us through? Each test is $75.00. I haven't really figured this out. The test can't be different from what other colleges have to take. It is Math, English (verbal/reading comprehension) and science. Um...key word science. how can I take a test or even prepare for one with just A&P I? I would be starting A&P II in the winter, which doesn't end until March 18, but the test! The entry exam has chemistry, and general science, and biology. Am I missing something? Because my common sense is telling me that there is no way someone could be prepared without some more science...at least finishing A&P and biology. No? They tell me today so many students failed this year...um...I wonder why! She said that these students completed their courses and still failed. Well, um...I don't now...maybe it is because we need more classes prior to taking the test? Has anyone already taken the entry exam and can anyone give me advice? I am thinking I should take this year and next year to finish my science courses, which like I said is only A&P and microbiology and finish the rest of my additional classes. I'm thinking of adding a science class that is outside of the courses of study just to get a grip. Anyone have any advice or should I just take a nose dive in? I would rather be prepared. They said they sell the test prep book in school...but is there anything else I need to know? Thank you!!!!!! Frustrated as heck |
