I AM SO DESPERATE COLLEGES HAVE WAITING LISTS EVERYWHERE FOR NURSING a vocational school in another state just opened up. im willing to go out of state and stay with family. This school says they offer a LPN to RN program NO entrance exam required! They also offer a RN ASN degree from excesloir college. They are accredited they said but not recognized yet by board of nursing?

There ad says: LPN and RN school. Convenient  location. Affordable tuition. Get LPN and RN from accredited institutions that have recruited some of the finest students and professors in the region. This is a great opportunity to attain a degree that will last a lifetime. Start a career in nursing today.

Sounds right?

I would wait until they are recognized by the board of nursing.  What that means is that you can go through their school and graduate but are not allowed to take nclex exam.  Once the board of nursing recognizes them then you can sit for your nclex.  I would not want to get all the way through get your degree but still can not work as a nurse.  If the board never recognizes them then you would have to go through another program.  It is usually just a technical thing but I still would not sign up until you can take the nclex.

If they are not recognized by your state board of nursing, you will not recieve licensure in your state.  There is no way around this - the program from which you recieve your nursing education must be approved by your state's BON, the NCSBN, and preferably be accredited as well - but if it is not approved by your state board, you will NOT be licensed to practice.

For example, in Florida, persons who graduate from Excelsior College are NOT eligible to sit the NCLEX and practice in the state, unless they are licensed as LPN's prior to enrolling in Excelsior.  You can earn an ADN from them, but you will not be allowed to take the NCLEX in Florida, nor will you be allowed to practice as a nurse in the state if you take the NCLEX in another state, unless you practice in that state for at least two years.

The bottom line is know what your state Board of Nursing's rules are - because no matter what the enrollment counselor at the college tells you, the BON is the final arbiter - and it would really be awful to spend the money, take the time, earn the degree - and not be able to be a nurse after all that.
