Try getting your BSN first, then your Master's before you start thinking about your PhD, really.

Unless I miss my guess, you're an LPN, looking into RN programs, yes?

Finish a baccalaureate degree.  Then worry about the professional degrees.

You're asking the wrong questions, IMO.  But that's just my $0.02.

I kind of agree with Ted, although I don't think there is anything wrong with looking forward and setting yourself tentative long term goals. Once you become an RN and begin to work and realize what area you wish to advance with, then it's time to think about where you wish to go with your education.

There are few textbooks for advanced nursing programs....in my master's program, we had the option to purchase books that became references, but there's not a book out there to teach you how to be a doctorally prepared nurse.  Especially if you are interested in a PhD in nursing rather than a Doctorate of Nursing Practice, you are really going to be living in the literature, and will likely begin to conduct your own research projects.  Claify your ultimate goal and go from there.
