Posted almost 5 years ago You just can't fix stupid. Some of the remarks and questions that I see posted on here scare me. These people are or will be nurses? God help us all. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago What comment or remark scares you? |
|

| Posted almost 5 years ago The scary part is not the comments themselves - it's that some of the posters making the comments are nurses, or about to be, or plan to be. We have to remember though, that the NCLEX only is designed to ensure a minimum safe level of competent practice - not articulation, comprehension, communication, or rational thought. It is to be fervently hoped that these things come with it - but it isn't a guarantee. Just take a look around at any hospital - you'll see the proof of that. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago It makes me very uncomfortable judging others. I figure, no question is either ignorant nor stupid. We are all here with varying levels of typing and education. Some naturally spell well, others do not and many admit their weaknesses. It bothers me alot, this site is becoming rude and mean. I no longer am eager to log on and see what blogs/posts have been added since I logged off. I will admit, I've been somewhat rude on a blog or two, usually defending someone else. I think many of us, will always feel there is hope. It's a half full glass I try to have in my head all the time, rather than being so negative. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I am dismayed by the attitude of some of the ER Nurses. After having walked around with a broken back for 5 years due to degenerative disc disease, I finally had spinal fusion surgery and got some blessed relief. I read a comment ( not on this forum, but another that was SUPPOSED to be humorous) about patients with lower back pain insinuating that they are med seekers - DUH ! That is the kind of pain that could drive you to suicide - people with this condition are in hellish agony and the Primary Dr.'s sometimes do not point you in the right direction. If you have that kind of contempt for a patient you need to hang up your cap. As far as judging the intelligence of others, I feel that God went to a lot of trouble to make us all different, our strengths and weaknesses. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Being judgmental is one thing (and a negative) being realistic is yet another thing. Stupid questions or ignorant questions? Oh yes, there can be stupid questions and stupid comments. Some people just do not use the brain at all and I find that very scary in nursing. I saw nothing posted here insulting or referring to poor spellers. But, since you brought it up, if someone has made it to college for an RN degree or to VoTech for an LPN degree and cannot spell, that is a problem. I was taught that you need to document your notes as if they will be read out loud in a court room. If you look uneducated on paper, you probably are and will look like a fool in the court room Hope that you have great malpractice insurance.
Rude and mean? What I have been seeing for the most part is constructive criticism and honesty.
If I am ever in the hospital I sure do hope that my nurses can all spell, especially the names of my medications, and I hope they are nurses not because they like the title. I agree with the post about speaking of med seeking behaviors and I sure do not see that post as being judgmental. Again, I see it as honest and very accurate. If you do not have an understanding of pain, pain management, and addictions, you should hang up that cap and move on.
Is there such a thing as med seekers? Oh boy; you can count on that!

| Posted almost 5 years ago Drug seekers? Yes, I think there may be such a thing, however since pain is subjective and a hang nail may be to one as a broken pelvis is to another I think many of us may need a little adjustment to our thought processes..... Do the vitals reflect pain????? What about the posture and inflictions????? Mental anguish can also be a factor of a spiral that is difficult to stop.... Alot of nurses around during report are so eager to share thier infinant knowledge of a pt. wants vs. needs..... When I see pts' that continue to come in time and time again for pain control for issues that seem impossible to control, I ask them if they have been to a pain clinic? Most of them will say no! Surprise surprise. Some are not even aware that such a thing exists. Hello some of us even do not know about them or where they are located. A few may be successful after going to a pain clinic and some may not, but to the few that go to a pain clinic and have positive results the sky is the limit..... To see the smiles on faces-priceless ;>) Primary Dr. do not have the experience with chronic pain besides that quick fix. Pain clinics deal with large numbers of people with a multitude of different pain issues. Because of the experince gained of working with pain issues they have avenues and techniques that normal medical schmos like us do not... Hey my spelling is getting a bit off as of being up for the past 18 hours.... I am off to bed... take care you all..... |

| Posted almost 5 years ago All of the goody two shoes really make me sick. Here we can say what we really want to say. How many times in the break room has someone said “Don’t you wish you could tell the patient/charge nurse/coworker/doctor what you are really thinking? |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Drug seekers do exist and we all know this. My biggest problem with them doesn't come from their sad existence and dependence on narcs. It comes from the wasted time and resources that could be spent on pts with legitimate, acute problems. Why can't we say the things out there that we say in here? Might make it more interesting. RNdude here. |

True Rdude----I agree they do exist... Working in ER I have seen my fare share. I also agree with your comment on the waste of time and resources. I have also seen a few who come in later beyond our help because we did not give them what they wanted/needed and they decided to help themselves.............. I also know that some of them started out with a ligitiment reason to be getting the pain medications that they so crave and the system let them down. They were allowed to go to multiple docs to be treated and collected multiple prescriptions. These seekers come from all walks of life and or ages. It is a problem without a fix. ; >) My way of dealing with it is to try to educate the ones I can to other options besides the heavy duty drugs. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I know- One of you start a new subject - " I am the most intelligent " " No you are Not " "No, I AM - my IQ is 155 " " Yeah , but you only got a 99 on the A&P final exam" Then all you superiority complex afflicted arrogant a**es can belittle each other, rather than those that have to struggle and study , and even misspell a word now and then. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Well, nothing ever came easy for me. I spent hours and hours studying. I managed to keep a nice GPA average. We can all make typos or misspell a word now and then. That sure is not what we are talking about here. In addition, no one here is taking on a “Holier Than Thou” attitude. The point is, some people just flat look stupid with their piss poor writing, horrendous grammar and slaughtering of the English language. |

I have told those people what I think. I do it as diplomatically as possible. I try not to say anything about anyone behind their back I wouldn't say to their face. If this makes me a goody two shoes than so what? Betcha my world is a happier place. dmazment |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I was under the impression there was one person that was upset writing all these postings. Why would I have to blog under anonymous, when I am basically anonymous under my nusinglink name. Who really knows me under my name? The only thing anyone knows about me anyway is what I post. |
