Well, I took my entrance exam yesterday. Baker does their program entrance by points, its competetive so there is no wait list. Although I have a 3.97 GPA, and all my bonus points, the points I got for my exam may not be enough to get me in. I am so bummed. Wish me luck, I should know in the next 2-3 weeks. They said we probably need 14 or 151/2 total points, I have 15.024. So wether or not I get in, it will be very close.

Good luck to you! Let us know how it goes for you.  We've all been there.  Leaving high school and entering college my GPA was a 4.0.  The first two years of college my GPA went down a little to a 3.5.  Let's face facts, college is much harder than high school.

Since entering the nursing program, my GPA has gotten lower.  This is even harder than your college classes.  Although there are people who can keep up their GPA, I'm looking at this process in a different way. I can't be too hard on myself. My nursing friends and I are looking at it that when we all graduate we will all be nurses.  No one will know if your GPA was a 4.0 or a 3.0.

I read somewhere that a "C" is the new "A".  LOL.  I think this is why nursing schools give you a passing grade of C+. It isn't easy that's for sure and I'm a studier. I don't goof off and party and go out. I miss my "other" friends besides nursing friends.  I'll take a C if I have to and be very pleased with myself.  I'll still be a great RN. To date I'm a "B" student and loving it!

Thank you for your encouraging words, I definately need them today. I have heard that once you get in to the program it is TOUGH, I am ready for the challange. I want this more than anything I have ever wanted. I am just frustrated that I have a higher prereque GPA than most of the applicants and I may not even get in. It doesn't seem fair. On the good side, I have one more chance to take the test in the fall for the winter program. Baker only takes 40 students each term and there are over 100 applicants this time.

The "original" college I went to right out of high school and a tough nursing program. 1,700 students had nursing as a major and they only accepted the first 100 with the best GPA's.  Well wouldn't you know it...at the end of Freshmen year I was number 101. GPA was 3.99. Guess everyone had perfect 4.0 and they were taken. I didn't make it.  I looked for another school. I also had to take some additional classes because certain credits were not transverable. I also think that needs to STOP.

Nothing was stopping me. The funny thing, this school told the people who didn't make it to "look for another career".  I am starting to get a bad taste in my mouth for some of these nursing instructors. They come off way to cruel and that type of attitude is not acceptable. Once I graduate next year and pass the NCLEX, I'm going there and shove my RN pin in her eye!!! LMAO

We all know what we were put on this earth to do. I wanted nursing since I was 15 and no one will stop me and no one will tell me other. I've made it through the "rain" and so can you or anyone else who wants nursing so badly.

I had more than my share of instructors who taught by intimidation. I grew sick of it and transferred to another school, Brenau University and that was the best choice ever. Like you, I wish that I could go back to my former instructors and shove my pin in their eyes. Your determination will pay off. Let nothing stop you.

Part of the problem with many of my nursing instructors was they no longer practiced at the bedside, and hadn't in some time.  It's funny to interact with them now.  Witches.

Why do these nursing instructors want to see so many nursing students fail? Is this the right attitude to have? I know that want to put on their "war face" so it scares you, but I feel you get more bees with honey than you do vinegar.

I'm so glad I got a new instructor now. She's wonderful and interacts with all us girls and makes us feel welcomed. She enjoys QUESTIONS, where the other instructor would yell at you for asking them. How do you learn if you don't ask questions.

I tried to get into one college twice and couldn't, like you my GPA was high enough, but they said the pool was competitive.  I am paying more now for the school I'm at, but now know it is a better school.  I've had my share of crappy instructors, but don't let that get you down.  If you want to do something, don't let anyone get in your way.  I've decided that a B in nursing classes is like getting an A.  If you have always been an A student, don't be disappointed that you get B's in nursing classes.  It is very common.  Just do your best and once you get into clinicals it makes it easier to connect the book learning.  Good luck!

I am feeling a little more confident about this whole mess now. I got my scores online, and as a class average for the whole test, I am a little over two percent above the average. I feel like there is hope now.

Thanks you guys for all your encouraging words, I am bound and determined to be a nurse. My goal is Maternity or NICU.   Whoo  HOOOO!!!!

I'm HAPPY with my B's! I'm finding it so hard to get an "A".

Speaking of paying a lot of money for school, I'd like to mention that I am against charging students MORE tuition just because they don't live in the state on in the town.

I live in New York but attend school in New Jersey.  I am paying THREE times more money than anyone else just because I cross a bridge and travel 20 minutes to school.  So stupid and insane!

Keep us posted magpiecdm9901. I'm sure you are in! Best wishes.

P.S. You are always bound to come across a few instructors who aren't the best, but that's life. The real good ones make up for THEM.

I'm worried about this and I haven't even got into the nusring program yet, I worried about the math, I suck in Math, bad. I think here in TX you get to take the test twice, which you pay for each time and if you don't pass after the second time you have to wait two years to take it again, at least here in Tyler, I don't know about the rest of the state.

Don't worry, you will make it. I just got the letter of acceptance for the nursing program here in Washington state. I worked very hard for it and the best is about to begin. But, I know if I stick with it, I can make it. I held a 3.25 and it was not easy! Maybe there are some basic math books you can get to work on it. I am going to do that since I have not touched math in a couple of years.
