Posted about 5 years ago Workin as a CNA for 6yrs in a SNF has been bitter sweet....I know for the fact that my job is a necessity to the delicate fabric of nursing and healthcare....My experience consist of dealing with 300lbs and HIV res with ADLs whom are paralyzed, mentally ill and very difficult personalities........I think we deserve a break($) and recognition......As do all of us....After all we have children and dream of the abilty to make rent and pay bills in cluding buying groceries on a $10.47/hr wage .Maybe perhaps of owning a brand new previously owned car instead of riding busses....Being able to take that dream family vocation on the road without having to work doubles.... but thats life......Is it possible or a dream i should drop? |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Not only will CNA's not be paid what they are worth but will LPN/LVN's and RN's ever be paid what they are worth. I just got a price from a plumber to change a drain in the bath tub to the tune of $50/hr, minimum 2hours. I wonder if I can get $50 an hour for changing a catheter? |

I no what you are talking about, Just think we go through more schooling than a plumber, spend time and money, and don't forget the stress of the nursing program, and working as a nurse, should all compensate for out salaries. We will get paid $50 dollars an hour, but with experience. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Of course you're underpaid. But because you live in San Francisco, where the cost of living is said to be high, I believe your pay at $10.47-an-hour is especially low. Like the others who commented, I doubt you'll ever earn pay as a CNA that will afford you the things you mentioned. Tell us more, including whether you've applied to work elsewhere as a CNA and if its possible for you to take college courses. Right now I wonder if you realize that with five years experience, you'd almost certainly be an attractive prospective employee for other, better-paying employers.

| Posted almost 5 years ago Where did San Francisco come from? If this is supposed to be anonymous...where did that info come from? Is it from 'SNF'? I thought that stood for Short-Term Nursing Facility. As far as the topic, I don't know that CNAs will ever get paid what they are truly worth. It's back-breaking work! |

| Posted almost 5 years ago CNA's are not paid what they should be paid. They are the backbone of the healthcare system. In Wisconsin in the SNF I work at they are paid 9.00-12.00 an hour. Some girls from Texas that moved here were telling they were paid less than that. It's unbelievable. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago More men are getting in the field. Frankly, women aren't aggressive and pushy enough to push for raises. Florence Nightingale is nice when it comes to helping others but it also means one can get the short end of the stick. More men as CNA's and Nurses...and as a result you'll see higher pay. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I was a CNA for a long time. We are the eyes and ears for the nurses. The pay is horrendous. The work is hard. How many days I pick up extra shifts. But it was worth it I saved for nursing school and went. You are someone. |
