Posted almost 5 years ago Why is it that while in nursing school they all say how nurses are in great demand but when you finally graduate and get your license it's a different story? I recently passed my boards and have been searching for a job for about a month now but most hospitals want you to have some experience before they will hire you?! Now Nursing Homes will. Where do you begin? Mrs. Woods RN |

Posted almost 5 years ago Where do you live? Even in small GA town Gainesville with six nursing schools around they hire new grads.

Posted almost 5 years ago Have they not heard of the nursing shortage there? Places are hiring new grads as charge nurses. I do not agree with that but they are hiring new grads everywhere.

Posted almost 5 years ago That's how it is here in WY. They had a waiting list to hire new grads and the list is gone. I have a chance to take my old job in a nursing home as a new grad but I'm just not sure. I know I have to get a job though. I did get some calls for LPN travel nurse but I'm not sure if that will help me getting into travel nursing as a RN. The pay will be better than the hospital, but I want to work in acute area. I haven't been able to work in critcal area as a LPN and now I want to challenge myself. It'll happen, just be the squeaky wheel. Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time.

Posted almost 5 years ago Many institutions will not consider you for employment, depending on the state where you reside until you have passed the NCLEX. Reapply with proof of licensure in your possession and I think things will change

| Posted almost 5 years ago My school says they place you in a position once you pass the NCLEX. I hope that's true. You might have to do something like med surg Right now I would like psych or else go take an additional class for OR and learn all the instruments etc.

Posted almost 5 years ago I have had the same experience. I live in the bay area and I am having a difficult time finding a job. Kaiser hired Oakland hired only 12 new grad nurses for thier New Grad program and I have heard they had over 450 applicants for thier program. I have been looking for about 3 weeks. by the way new grad nurses working with Kaiser are making a start pay of about $ 50 per hour!!! so of course nurses are flocking there. I will keep looking but our instructors warned us that new grads are not getting jobs as readly as they once were.

Posted almost 5 years ago My friend just graduated in May and passed the NCLEX. He was hired in a NY hospital for $80,000 a year. New York and New Jersey are doing well from what I hear from other nurses as well as my instructors.

Posted almost 5 years ago I have a job interview tomorrow in the local hospital for telemetry or PCU. I'd appreciate positive thoughts. I'm so excited, scared and doubting of my skills. Amazing, I interviewed for CCU in 2000 as an LPN, but my husband got orders to move so I didn't take it. I doubt my skills as a RN, but was a confident LPN. Any way cross your fingers. Starting wage posted in $23.55/hr with 8-12% depending on experience. Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time.

Posted about 4 years ago I haven't taken the NCLEX yet. Graduation in is June. I'm getting my license for NY and NJ. My school is in NJ. I hear there are many jobs out there. I can be placed at my school's hospital if I want. If I do that it will only be for a year. I really don't care for this hospital too much but I might just take it to get a year experience under my belt. Sorry you are having a hard time finding something. What exactly are you looking for? What hospitals have you looked into in NYC?

Posted about 4 years ago I have applied to Sinai, NY presbetarian and others. In CT I have applied to a ton more. I am really looking to line something up so I can take the boards in that state rather than having to transfer my liscence.

for a year and then move into the department you prefer. I'm really not a med surg fan.
