Hello-

I'd like to speak with a nurse who has experience with the Case Management aspect of nursing. I'd like to continue my education but I'm having a hard time finding schools/places that offer case management certification. Any suggestions?

You don't have to get certified in casemanagement unless the state you work in requires it. You can get experience through home care agencies or insurance agencies. Many colleges, like Davenport, Pheonix, Baker college or similar ones in your state offer classes or a course on casemanagement certification. The best education in casemanagement is home care. I've been in home care over 15 years.

You done necessarily have to take a class to be certified. If you have 2 years experience you can take the test. Here's the website: http://www.ccmcertification.org/index.html.

I am currently working on my second year in CM. I hope to be taking the certification test in 2009.

You see, I don't work in Case Management now, I was more looking towards the future or doing it part-time. I work in the ICU, and don't want to give that up.

If you are truly wanting to become certified as a case manager then you will have to work as a case manager for a certain period of time before sitting for the exam. From what I have researched, you can't just take a class and sit for the exam.

I am currently trying to research case management and how to "break into" that area. Everyone seems to be looking for experienced case managers. I have been a nurse for almost 30 years(YIKES)!!  Anyway did mostly hospital nursing...ICU, ER,Interventional Radiology then some home infusion nursing. I have been away from nursing for a year now and need to re-enter. I too got certified as a legal nurse consultant a few years ago an then decided I did not like attorneys!! I thought case management might be a good place to go and may have a lasting future with potential for advancement. Any advice or thoughts on CM would be greatly appreciated. If I go work for a home health agency how does that get me into case management?

I also thought about getting trained as a dialysis nurse. Looked at Fresenius and DaVita. Anybody out there have the scoop onthese 2 company's??  I love autonomous positions, have great critical thinking skills, just don't need the hospital politics or the endless hours . Not sure what direction to go in. Any thoughts ...I love the community!

I don't work for a home health agency and I am in case management. I work for a local health department and do case management for high risk peds pateints. You could find a CM position at a hospital like discharge planner.
