What is your GRIPE for the day?

Posted about 5 years ago Everyone of us has gripes, bitch sessions, complaints, venting what ever you want to call it, let us get it off our chests... My gripe for the day is for the doctors that we need to get orders from who never call back. Waiting on hold, multiple calls back, we as nurses should be able to do something about this problem....hmmmmm A busy RN is here |

| Posted about 5 years ago I agree with you. We have a chain of command at the hospital that I work at for problems like that. We call the doc and wait 15 minutes and call back. If no call recieved in ten minutes we write an incident report. Then we call the AO and they call the head physican (He is over all the physican in our hopsital. He calls the doctor and then we get a call back, usually in about 5 minutes. We dont have to do that very often becuase the doctors know that they are only allowed so many incidents before they on review. This works. I have seen two doctors lose their privileges at the hopsital for too many non-returned calls. By the way, did they forget that we are the ones that take care of thier patients. I think we need to stand to together and remind them that we are their colleagues not the emeny. |

| Posted about 5 years ago gdhipp that sounds like a great idea. I wish that would start that where I work. I work nights and we have such a problem with docs calling back. Just last week, we had a nurse, 3 nights in a row not be able to get in touch with the doc she was calling. The first night she ended up calling the pt's primary physician even though he wasn't on call. I can't remember what happen the 2nd night and then the 3rd night after about an hour he finally called, and she was calling to report a death and to see if he wanted to come into announce or if he wanted the nursing supervisor to announce. It's so frustrating to have to sit and wait 10, 20 or even longer for the doc to call back. I had to call a doc one night, (one that is notoriously bad about taking forever to get in touch with) and I left the desk to go give some meds, b/c I knew I would have to have him paged again. Well, wouldn't you know it, that one particular night, he called right back and I had forgotten to take my phone with me, so he didn't get to talk to me, so I had to call him back, and got chewed out, b/c I wasn't available. I was so mad. I inconvinenced the doc for about 2 minutes. God forbid!! LOL |

| Posted about 5 years ago gdhippp: what a great policy. Where do you work? I sure wish that there had been polices like that in the places I have worked in the past. |

| Posted about 5 years ago StartlightRN: I am sorry that your friend had to go through that. And as far as the Doctor chewing you a new one I understand. I also work nights and have had a few do that to me. I dont let them get away with it either. I remember a doctor once that he was on call. I had a patient going bad and need to get order after the first responds team got done with the patient. We transfered the patient to the ICU and he need to be aware and give orders. He started cursing at me. I very nicely ask him if he talked to his wife with that mouth. He actually stopped talking and yelling and appologized. Yes, I got an apology from a doc. We then finish with the conversation. This doctor to this day still is very nice to me. He has become a great teacher too. I am one for being a team player and the doctors are part of the team. They somewhere along the way forgot that we are not their puppets we are their colleagues. Good luck! |

| Posted almost 5 years ago my gripe for today is people who are not willing to be open-minded and look at things in a different light even though they might not agree. I always try to see things from others point of view. I may not agree with them but I value their right to their own opinion. That's what makes this a great world. Everyone doesn't have to agree. But we don't have to be narrow-minded and only see things one way. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago My grippe for today is Customer service. I'm here at work today, and because of the weather we have several outages in different locations. People can be so rude sometimes. Like I said before Its just cable, not life or death. My favorite question is "What am I going to do with my kids now" well I'm not sure take them outside, read a book, or if you must let the tv babysit your kids pop in a dvd. Also " I work from home i need my computer" I never realized how many people work at home. I want to work from home I just cant find a job that would allow me to from home. All I have to say is be nice, its just as fraustrating for us and it is you. MICHELE

| Posted almost 5 years ago My gripe of the day is people that try to make things bigger and worse then they are. My son was in a fender bender the other day and with no demage to either car. They exchanged information and went on their way. Then the guy called us about a thirty minutes later and started telling us that his transmission was grinding. We had already called our insurance. My husband works for a dealership and told the guy to bring his car done. We got pictures of the cars. This guys car had so much previous demage all over the car that we were amazed he was still driving the car. No one in the shop had ever heard of that happening, getting tapped on the bumper has nothing to do with the transmission. This guy is looking for a free payday. Our insurance is going to sort this out it is just flustrating that some people cant be honest. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago My gripe for the day is it is really hot in the pacific northwest (to be hotter tomorrow) and there is no air conditioning. For some reason, it is rare apartments here in the Seattle Tacoma area to have air conditioning. The dog is panting and lethargic, the cats are laying on every available cool surface and lethargic. Bowls of ice water have been drunk, the kid is laying around because he's hot and I am hot too. Daughter is at work in air conditioning the lucky dog. |

Do you have a pool? It's hot here too (Virginia) 100 degrees yesterday and today. We went to beach yesterday by a pier. Sat underneath the pier. Cool and shady. Stayed most of the day. No one got sunburnt! |

| Posted over 4 years ago Okay...one gripe for something that's been weighing on my mind for two days now. As a new student to the medical profession and a customer service rep. for over 25 years, I found myself needing emergency medical attention for abd. pain last Saturday. I basically knew what I was in for (long wait times in the ER, being reprimanded for my "bad" veins when IV was placed..) which I tolerated because I was in pain and needed a dx. The final straw came at 4 in the morning (after a 9 hour wait in ER, and my IV site reddened and sore) when the Charge Nurse approached my bedside tentatively to explain what had caused the delay. I was reserved, exhausted and listened patiently to what she had to say. I mentioned the fact that communication would have prevented most of my anxiety at that point to which she responded "So that is what happened, basically, S*hit Happens!" !!!! ????? I was left speachless.......She was almost redeemed up until that statement left her mouth! Thanks for reading! |
