Posted almost 5 years ago Hello, My name is Christine, a new grad. I take the NCLEX in July. I was told to start applying for positions once I have my test date, however, I don't see that much out there for full time that doesn't require 'years of experience'. As a new grad, should I just apply for any postion available? or should I hold out until I see what I want or close to what I want? Thanks Christine |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Bottom line is you need experience and you should apply where you wish to work. Once you get experience then you can transfer to another area of nursing. |

I got my cna in october of 2007and I am going into the lpn program this year and I have no work experience so i am having a hard time finding a job. I even got to the point were i kind of gave up. I plan to start looking again in july. My main problem is i dont want to work in a nursing home. I just dont think it is my kind of place to work. I would like to be able to work in a hospital or doctors office of some kind. I hope that u are able to find a job. Good luck |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Thank you for your responses. I found a program at a local hospital that is taking new graduate rn's in the OR and ER. After I take the NCLEX I will follow up. I did find many more opportunities online, compared to the local newspaper. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Ok. I passed NLCEX. Any advice on interviewing for a nursing position? I've only had one 'professional' interview in my life, that was for an administrative position. Any help would be appreciated |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Congrats on passing your boards.Be confidant with answers, dont appear unsure of yourself.Show enthusiasm,ask questions.Definately check the employer out before the interview, do your homework on them.You have to let them you know you are the right person for the position,sell your best assests.And,of course, dress professional, and arrive a tad early.Good luck!! |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Thanks :) Dialysis Center. I will be training to be a Nephrology Nurse. This was the first the facility I applied too. I guess things do happen for a reason. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I went on my first interview today. I was just a little nervous.....not knowing what to expect, how it would go. I was asked to come in to fill out an application rather than transmit one online. When I was handed the application, included in the packet was a test to take! The test had some matching, true and false, conversions, matching generic drug names to the brand/trade names, and med calculations. Since I was applying for a position in a nursinghome/rehab center, the test questions were mainly aimed at the elderly (commonly used meds and dosing). I did very well on the test! Now I just have to wait until Monday for a phone call The director was not in today and she must review my application, test results, and speak with the DON. I feel very confident that I got the job....it really went well. Believe in yourself....take a deep breath.... |

| Posted over 4 years ago I would say start hitting the pavement running. With the nursing shortage the sky is the limit. Choose the area you want to work in and most places will hire you as a nurse tech or graduate nurse until you scores come in. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Many states will no longer allow you to work as a graduate nurse, meaning you must have taken and passed your NCLEX before you apply for any positions. While I think this is counter-productive, I do see their point. |

| Posted over 4 years ago My friend just graduated, passed the NCLEX the first time around. He applied for a couple jobs and they are offering him $78,000. This is in Staten Island, New York. I graduate in 2009. I hope I pass first time around also. I can't wait! I'm going to inquire with my instructor because my school places you somewhere if you wish. Good luck everyone in your job search. The journey has just begun!

| Posted over 4 years ago Well, I am in the LPN program at a local community college now. I got my CNA about a year ago. I dont care to work in a nursing home, i feel it is not what i want to do. I would perfer a job in a doctors office or hospital of some sort. I just need a part time, flexible job to do while in nursing school. Also there is home health which would be great. |
