Overtime Victory in New York State!

Posted almost 5 years ago This afternoon New York State Governor Paterson announced a three-way agreement with the State Senate and Assembly on legislation to restrict the use of mandatory overtime for nurses to emergencies. 1199SEIU RNs and LPNs have been lobbying for this legislation for the past six years, and are thrilled that NY legislators have reached an agreement. Now we look forward to them signing and passing the bill into law, which would then take effect in July 2009. I see nurses post questions on this forum about joining unions, and I think that progress like this is one of the most important things nurses can achieve with a union. I know I am very glad that nurses in New York will no longer be requird to work beyond their regularly scheduled hours, except in the event of emergencies, once this takes effect. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago GREAT! I live in New York and I'm hoping to work here too unless I work in New Jersey. Looks like Mr. Paterson is starting off on the right foot. lol

| Posted almost 5 years ago I have always said that the NY and CA nurses rock. I wish everyone would pay attention to these two states and follow thier lead. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago That's great to hear. Nobody should be mandated to work, that's glorified slavery. |
