Posted almost 5 years ago Why are the CRNA payed so well, compared to other nurses with advanced degrees?(for example,a CRNA earns about 130.000/year ,while a Nurse Practitioner only about 80.000).Why is the pay gap so large? |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Several reasons. 1. It's highly specialized. A CRNA could do other things while another NP can't come in to the OR and give anesthesia without several years of training. 2. They give anesthesia and have the opportunity to be paid several different ways, Independent practice and they can bill insurance companys and the insurance companys compensate CRNA's at a higher rate. As a hospital employee where they have a chance to work a great deal of overtime. 3. They're in very high demand |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Anesthesia schools are academically for more challenging than the average NP program. They are extremely competetive to gain acceptance. 3.5 is a low GPA if you are trying to get in. Anesthesia schools are rare. The majority of states don't have more than one program which accepts anywhere from only 11-30 students in a year and may have a wqashout rate of up to a 50%. So you can see compared to the number of people needing anesthesia for surgeries across the US there are very few anesthesia professionals. This demand allows anesthetists to name their salaries. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Hey sakura, I'm glad you posted this, because I really had the same question.
So is the starting salary for the CRNA generally in the hundred thousands? |

| Posted almost 4 years ago The difference in the CRNA vs NP salaires is simply a funtion of reimbursement. A CRNA can charge more to the paying entity ( Insurance company) for example. It has little to do with the rigors of the education etc. We are paid more because the people who pay our salaries... or in the case of independent practitioners, the insurance companies, have put a higher monetary value on ourservices. All jobs are paid exactly what the market determines they are worth... period. Is that fair? You could discuss that for years.
Cheers. |
