I live in NY and am currently applying for nursing school.  I have a non criminal offense and wanted to know how this affects me becoming a LPN.  I know the school does not do background checks but the clinical sites do.  They do background checks and/or fingerprints.  I also wanted to know what is the difference between fingerprinting and background checks, i.e. what does one show that the other does not.  Does only a criminal background affect getting licensed or do they look at non criminal offenses too.  I need to know as much as possible.  Thank you so much.

Sincerely,

You need to check with you state nursing board.  You can usually find it online.  It will tell you what you state criteria is for your state.  I am not sure if they are the same for every state.  Fingerprinting is how they did my background checks.  They did a state and FBI check on me.
