Posted almost 5 years ago Everyone always says "To help others" that is nice but what is your REAL desire in your heart? I was very interested in Science and Micro I wanted to be part of the solution doing my small part to make others more comfortable and happy when they are ill. A busy RN is here |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I had worked in women's clinics for 8 years as a medical asst/ counselor, and eventually manager but didn't get satisfaction from the administrative aspect. One of my co-workers asked me what was my dream job and I said an L & D nurse. That was when I realized that my dream job was totally attainable. It doesn't hurt that the pay is good, there are many different areas you can work and there seem to always be job openings. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I became a nurse because becuase when I was growing up my mother was always taking care of the sick people she knew and sick family member. When I was 15 my grandfather lived with us till be passed away. I was always drawn to helping her take care of them. It has always been a desire to be a nurse and help with the sick. |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I honestly don't want to come across as bitchy, irritable and nasty. BUT this topic has already been posted as What's your story-Why did you become a Nurse in General Forums Say Hello. Not to mention "Why did you choose this career?" and probably others. Please could everyone look for something similar before starting another topic? It's bogging down the forum and it's becoming extremely difficult to find topics one is looking for. Thanks

| Posted almost 5 years ago I became an LPN because I dreamt of becoming a doctor. My mom told me it was to much money to spend on a dummy. When I said I'll be an RN then, she said she couldn't see wasting the money. So I put myself through the LPN course and graduated in 1981. It just seemed like the next step for a dummy. All these years this has rung in my ears, I know she didn't mean any harm. Maybe this has pushed me harder to learn things out of my area of education. Now I've graduated withe High Distinctions, President Honor Roll, 4.0 and now am an RN...not bad for a dummy eh? Out of this whole thing I took out of this was never to put down any ideas of my daughter. As far as I am concerned she is brilliant, she can run this world. She is a fantastic person and she will go far. I pray she will never look back and say I wish I could have or should have. She is going to take the bull by the horns and go for everything she can. I thank my mom everyday for this, My daughter will go far. Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time. |

| Posted about 4 years ago this is really not easy to answer, is it? For me, it was not so much that I chose nursing, but that nursing found me. I had worked in computers and was on track to have a good career with easy work that paid nicely. But, I knew there was more to me than just sitting in front of a computer. I had no idea what to do, but I kept interviewing for jobs in the computer field. One day I saw some information about a grant program that would pay for an L.P.N. program. It was like a switch had come on. I applied, was accepted, and never looked back. Being a nurse is such a huge privelege to me. There is something in me that wants to help other human beings with their healing. I do not care about being the hero or whatever. It is enough for me just to be there for the moment. I think that is what I felt when I first considered nursing. There were many unknowns, but somehow I knew that nursing would offer me that connection to my true self. |

| Posted over 3 years ago I was originally on track for an MD, but decided that nursing was a lot closer to the day-to-day interactions I wanted with patients. |
