What are your plans after graduation? Where will you work? Do you know what area of nursing you want to work in? Any plans to go for another degree. Anyone getting married or starting a family after graduation?

I just want to work as an RN, the position is the same as before graduation just a bit more money. That was not my goal, yes money is important but I want to be a RN. I'm waiting for GN positions open in the hospital. Even though I've taken and passed boards I can only apply for the GN positions...which are NONE...at this time. ICU/ PCU are my #1 areas, I've worked everywhere else except ER. I'd love ER but the thought of taking care of ill babies and children scares me, I would cry and I don't want to be out of control.

Please don't pay any attention to my misspelled words or typos. Sorry I'll try harder next time.

Well I graduate in October and I already have a job.  I will have an ASN.  I have a bachelors in another area and to be honest I don't think I need a BSN.  Don't shoot me but here is why I said that.  I want to go to law school for medical law.  I already took the LSAT and got accepted to two law schools already but I have to find to funds to attend because law school tuition is no joke.   I think being an RN in this field will give me an advantage over everyone else.

* after graduation... i'll still go on with my goal in life, to stay put with my career and maintain myself as a good nurse. i'll stay.. just a plain RN, it's good if i'll be a head nurse hehe. i won't get married yet after my graduation, i'll focus with my career in order for me to help my parents.. my siblings.. my loving family. i wan't to reach my dreams with them before having my own family. hehe. maybe i'll get married after 6 years of my academic graduation... i'll be graduating at the age of 20.. hehe (^^,)

Although I am a year away from graduating with my ADN,  I am still unsure what kind of nurse I want to be.  I work in a hopital as a resource PCT and get floated to many different units.  I thought between experiencing different units at work and clinicals at school would help me decide what kind of nurse I want to be.  Yet I am still unsure.  Is there anyone else that has the same issue?  RN's, did you know when you where in nursing school what kind of nurse you wanted to be?  My classmates seem to know what they want to do so asking them wasn't much help.  I think my biggest fear is picking a certain department like psych or L & D and then forgetting things that apply to med/surg or other areas of nursing.  I want to keep my options open.  Its funny cuz I feel like I want to work in every field of nursing!  Maybe once I get in the field I will calm down a bit :)

Angie, I have a couple of friends, who had no idea what area they wanted, so one started in icu step down, stayed a year. went to oncology, stayed a year, did med surg, stayed a year, went to ICU, stayed two years and finally went to the ER, hated it for the first two weeks and then it suddenly clicked for him and he's been a trauma nurse for 25 years now.  Another did med surg for a couple years, ortho for a year, rehab for two years, and ended up in OR.  Another went to ICU then CCU, then ER than went back to school and got her BSN then back to school and became a CRNA.  My point is, they made their choices after a few years of searching and lots of times this happens.  Don't think you have to choose now, because you don't.  Don't think because you're working in a specific area you can't go/try something else.  When the right fit clicks it does so loudly.  I met an RN in Minnesota who has more certification initials behind her name then you can almost not count. She absorbs information like a sponge and is one of the rare people who does absolutely everything well.  The last I heard from her, she was embarking on the road to informatics and she has never gone back to school for her BSN

Thank you Deb for for your info.  That leaves me more comfortable with deciding what I want to do.  If by the end of graduation I still don't know what I want to do, I will do med/surg.  However I really am interested in exploring different areas of nursing.  Well I guess that's the great thing about healthcare is all the options that are available!
