Posted almost 5 years ago What would you do if your manager told you in a harsh, scolding tone...."...you will do it, you will give your best, and you will act like you love it. And if I hear about this from anyone you will be suspended? (meaning that I don't need to be telling anyone about our conversation)" This was after I voiced my opinion of having to float from my m/s area to quick reg in the er (of which I am not trained) and there were 2 other people on the floor who were very much willing to go and wanting to go and were trained! I'm considering seeking employment elsewhere. |

Posted almost 5 years ago You're manager has no business talking like that to anyone. Her threat is also unwarranted, and her words make me wonder if she has a history of bullying the staff, and maybe even some of the patients she once served. You've got to decide for yourself whether you stay or go, but I believe it's plain that your manager is unfit to manage.

Posted almost 5 years ago Yah, that is a problem. I was just relieved of my duty for the night because I have been sick and they wanted me to work swing in ER. I told them I was not up to ER. I arrived to work 1 hour later for my normal shift on med-surg and they told me to go home since I couldn't work ER. I was dumb struck..... I had just worked my last shift in ICU for them...... I was hired for med-surg but I do float for them when they need it. I have not been specifically trained for the other areas. They have even put me in charge nurse positions a few times with out asking. I show up and there I am on the schedule as charge. Yes I know what to do but have they ever offically trained me. no!!! Have they ever asked me to be relief charge? no!!!!! Am I comfortable with the floating and such? Yes!!! I have not compaigned however in light of the rules if something went bad while I was on those duties what would happen to me? Would they back me up? or????

Posted almost 5 years ago I am new to this profession, however I am an older person, I would be livid if I was talked to in this manner, I hear of this kind of talk and it makes me cringe to think that I will face this type of bullying, however it will stop as I will be looking for another job, Guess what, I can!! When there are people that are willing to go to the specialty places and they insist they send you sound like three words POW-ER TRIP!!!!!Get over yourself and think about you patients for once.

Posted almost 5 years ago Well the first thing I would have done is finished my shift in an area I am trained in because to do otherwise would be to put patient safety in danger (not that you couldn't do it, but under the circumstances your boss can't force or suspend you for giving this reason) and then I would be following up with his/her supervisor about the safety concerns, threats, and bully-tactics. Depending on the response is whether I'd find a new job, but most likely since alot of supervisors don't really care. And I agree with whoever said this manager is an unfit manager. That's an understatement.

Posted over 4 years ago I worked at Manorcare for several years. The DON there would scream at you, call us murders and crappy nurses. She would bully you and get much joy out of it, The sad part is that nothing is ever done to stop these power hungry bullies.
