Help interpreting docs orders

Posted almost 5 years ago I am doing my prep for tomorrows clinicals and I have order I don't understand. The order says "4" cohan from CPD have a bedside". I think it might be some sort of dressing for her legs but I'm not sure- any help would be greatly appreciated...

| Posted almost 5 years ago Should be Coban - a type of adhesive dressing. The order means have a roll of 4 inch Coban at bedside, if I am not mistaken. CPD I am not familiar with - but may refer to procurement division. HTH.

| Posted almost 5 years ago LOL---- I can not wait for the Dr. to be on computers to write thier orders. It is a wonder more errors are not made while interpreting orders. Dr.s are using unapproved acronyms. For the longterm staff who are used to them it is ok, but we have so many new nurses due to the high rate of turnover. It is a pretty scary situation that has been the bane of nursing since the begining of time...... At one time we even had a list of frequently used acronyms and also the Drs' signatures so we would know who wrote the orders. I can honestly say though that I had not seen an order written such as the one you presented above... |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Thanks to everyone who replied to my question. Turned out to be Coban- I felt silly for not figuring that one out. The hospital where I have clinicals this summer has not gone to computerized charting yet (the plan is to convert sept 1st). I think it will be great when docs have to use the computers also-maybe...

| Posted almost 5 years ago Christie... We changed to computerized charting over 1 year ago.... Dr. still are not using the system as of today. When asked why they are not the IT dept. stated that many of the Dr. were having a hard time just converting to having to retrieve thier labs and such as well as looking at pt notes. IT did not think that DR would be able to handle learning the system as well as thier pt load...... LOL I know that Dr.s' are hard headed sometime, but really!!!!!! Who has who wrapped around a little finger ;>) |
