| Posted about 4 years ago I had a really bad experience. I moved from New Orleans to Baton Rouge when I got married in 1996. My spouse was on a managed care insurance plan at his job, so we had to randomly pick a doctor on the list of providers. I just picked a name basically, since I knew no physicians in that city. Unfortunately, about 1 year later i began to have frequent urination, but not the typical UTI symptoms like burning and pain. I worked at an MD's office at the time, and I did a urinalysis on myself at his office. I was shocked to see I had a raging UTI. The doc I worked for was kind enough to put me on an ABT. I did not help though. He encouraged me to see my managed care doc, in case I would need to see a specilaist. I called for an appointment, and the guy I was supposed to see was on vacation , so one of his colleauges, (a female physician) was assigned to me instead. She was very kind and gave me a urology referral. She also gave me a Rx. for lortab, because by now I was experiencing right flank colic and back pain intermittantly. My appt would be a 3 mont wait, and she gave me about 30 pain pills. About a week prior to my appt, I began to have severe renal colic and flank pain, and my lortab had run out. I called my physician. He happened to be on call that night. I explined what had been going on, and how I had a week before my urology appt, but I was in pain. His response to me was"I"m not giving you lortab!, if you're in that much pain you can see me in the morning." I agreed, and palnned to see him next day. When he came into the ttraetment room to greet the next day, his first words to me were: "So, how's your sex life?" I began to cry, and replied"What sex life? I don't have a sex life I'm in too much pain, I want you to tell me what's wrong with me." He had me give him a urine sample. He came back saying I had blood in my urine, but that was normal. He than began questionong me about any streeses I may have been having. I was so upst and minimized by then, I began to tell him every sin I had ever commited. He then told me I was depressed and wrote me a script for Prozac! I can remember calling my husband and telling him," I came here to find out waht was wrong with my kidneys, only to be leaving on an anti-depressant!" I guess this ass of a doctor decided it was all in my head.Naturally, I did finally find a good doctor who diagnosed me with interstitial cystitis.
Hope that helps! Claire Kruszka |
