Some of you know my story, but for those who don't here is it in short form:

I am currently going to a CC and taking my gen eds and am planning on transferring to a four year school the fall of 09 to take nursing classes. I KNOW that I want to become a nurse, and I am pretty sure I want to work in the labor and delivery unit. I am leaving my job as a nanny the 1st of September to go back to school full time. I am looking for another job and wanted to know if anyone has any advice on how to get a job or even an internship at a hospital. I have tried looking online and calling a few places, but have gotten little answers. I feel that this would be a great opportunity for me seeing as I am making a new change, plus it would give me great experience.

Any advice would help!!

Take a CNA class, they are generally 6 weeks, and get your foot in the door where you would like to work as an RN or LPN .  Some places will hire without CNA certification and some will pay for the training for CNA.  Also many hospitals have tutiion reimbursement for nursing training.  Check with your local facilities to see what they offer.  You may try to get a nursing assistant position in a labor and delivery unit to see if you like it.  I really wanted to be an OR nurse, but found out with my asthma, I can't breathe in the surgical masks.  So you may find something out about labor and delivery that would make you decide it's not for you.
