I was an OR nurse before I decided to go back to school for my MSN. I would like to become a CRNA because the pay seems so tempting!!

I started as an oncology nurse and went to management and now teach an LPN program and work PRN in a nursing home as a staff nurse and as a nursing supervisor four days a month in a local hospital. I love all of these positions.Sally

at the moment I am working in a gastro MD office. I have worked in a nusing home, pulmonary MD office, community health, call center for diabetic supplies, and in hospitals on med-surg units, stepdown units and dialysis units. I have enjoyed them all.

Hospice is what I was called to do. I wouldn't trade it for anything else. Lots of people ask me because of the nature of what I do; how do I do it! First, no one wants to suffer, no asked for sickness but the joy of helping someone on their journey, to live their last days as pain free as possible, to be able to sit and listen to a last plea for forgiveness or help them articulate in some fashion a farewell to a love one; it brings about a sense of humbleness in ones self. I have learned to appreciate the little things in life maybe ; if I weren't working in this field I would have normally taken for granted. We have a saying in my home that goes: " It ain't that serious" (children)! Do you know how great it feels to know what your calling in life is?

I am a Gerontology CNS. I just accepted a job as a Staff Development Coordinator in long term care. I have done many other things as well - case management psych, dual diagnosis ( psych / detox ), oncology, and hospital education and CNS. But, I keep returning to the elderly!! They are my favorites!!

Hi- Pediatrics was my calling. I have been working with Peds for about 14 years (LPN to RN) and about a year ago I sat for my Lactation Consultant Boards. I passed!!! So now I am also an IBCLC, RLC. I never in a millions years would have thought I would have liked Peds this much. I hated it in Nursing School!

Hi-
I spent few years in the hospital orhto, neuro, surg, psych. then worked at a state psych hosptial. I worked hospice and home health and very much enjoyed that, more so in rural areas. Really improved my assessment and diagnostic skills (and IV) that was probably my favorite area of nursing, independent and a lot of variety.
then I went to work for the feds (as I had been in the army as a medic prior). I worked at an out-pt VA clinic serving about 2,000 vets with ONE dr. working way out of my scope, 60-70 hrs/wk. Got really burnt out, so went back to school for BSN (from ADN). I also got a degree in arts and religion, just cause they were fun classes. Now I am working psych and detox. The detox job pays less then when I had an LPN in late 80's early 90's. So I guess going to school is not always about money and it is a bummer to get paid less for harder work and a higher education, but I am happy doing it and learning about Ak native culture. I also try to stay current on nursing issues and get involved with NLN. Working for the VA enlightened me about improving health care and the value of us nurses, especially you ANP's, and nursing instructors thank you.

thanks for your post about hospice. I especially like the humilty part and "it aint that serious". I worked in a very rural area so hospice and home health was combined (prior to MCARE HHC changes). Man it was a great job, I got way more then I ever gave. Most excellent that you have found your thing and even better for the people you care for.

I orginially was a post-partum/newborn nursery RN but made a change this year. I am now a school nurse. Took a major cut in pay but I get my rewards elseware. The kids are great, get to spend more time with my children and you can't beat the vacation time. :-)

I am a Cardiothoracic Surgical RN on a open heart/heart transplant team for 20+ years. Love the procedures, the pace, 'crashes' and the high tech.

I am a Assisted Living/geriactric nurse plus have worked with MR/DD for several years. I was on floor nurse then became Director of an Assisted Living Facility in Florida. LPN's can do much more than they get credit for. I have been a nurse for over 30 years and love it. Now, living in Ohio, hunting for a similiar job or physician's office, which I did until she retired. Love dealing with families and the community.
