I just finished A and P 2 and am officially done with A and P! I'm so happy for it to be over! No more late night studies! Yay! Who else has finished A and P to the end? Are you as happy as I am? lol :)

I haven't taken A & P 1 and 2 yet but I will sign up for it in the Spring.  I have to take the prereq class first (Chemistry).  I had to drop the class over the summer.  It was a tough class to follow and absorb in 8 weeks on top of working 40 hrs/ week.  How does A & P 1 and 2 compare to Chemistry when it comes to the lectures and labs?  In other words, on a scale of 1 to 10 what level of difficulty would you rate the classes you just finished?

I haven't taken chemistry yet because it isn't a pre req at my school.. On a scale of 1-10 I'd give Anatomy and Physiology 1 & 2 a rating of 9 for difficulty..there will be easier lectures like the digestive system that won't be as hard as lectures like acid base balance or the cardiovascular.. It really depends on what you find easy or hard. I passed 1 with like a 90 and 2 with a 90.3 overall in both classes. If you put in enough studying time, you are sure to pass the class. Good Luck! If you need help with anything in Anatomy you can email me at dramatic1@psci.net...

I appreciate that, dramatic1.  Hopefully I won't struggle too much.  Much luck 2 U as well.

I haven't taken anatomy yet but will this fall.  I am taking Chemistry right now and it's the hardest class I have taken.  Especially in the summer.  But when you have a teacher that doesn't know how to teach, it's even harder.  I am actually looking forward to anatomy.  That is what I am interested in the most, not Chemistry.  I am just now starting to get the math after teaching myself.  Anatomy will be lots of memorization.  When this summer quarter is over I am going to start looking over my anatomy book.  It will be hard, but this is what nursing is about, the human body!

I haven't taken A & P yet, but from the people I have talked to said that it was a lot of memorization. I was supposed to take A & P 1 this summer, but I decided against it because I would have to wait a whole year before taking A & P 2 and I figured that I would get rusty in the time in between classes. I am taking medical terminology instead this summer. My thinking was that it was a good intro. to the A & P and I would familiarize myself with the medical terms as well (roots, prefixes, suffixes, etc.). So far, I have done pretty well in the course and it's not too hard (mainly because it's an online course). I also really enjoy the material that I am learning.

As for the chemistry, I took it this past spring. Now, I'll admit that it wasn't the easiest class that I've ever taken, but I had a really good teacher, and he was really supportive. He was there to teach the material and he really wanted to the class to understand and grasp the info. so we could all succeed. I did get an A in the class. I think that it also helped because I had a strong chem beckground from high school, also had a really good teacher in HS as well. I was surprised that a lot of the basic concepts did come back to me.

P.S. I had the worst teacher imaginable for BIO 101, though. He was not a native speaker of the English language, and it did not help that he just sat there the entire lecture and read from the textbook. I can do that too!!!

I am glad that I dropped my Summer Chemistry class because #1 the class is tough and #2 the teacher taught the subject as if it was a refresher!  Had I known about www.ratemyprofessor.com earlier, I would have done the research on my Chemistry teacher from hell.  The comments from other students validated that she was truly a horrible teacher.  Oh, and english is not her 1st language so the lectures were challenging to try to grasp.  I read comments on my new and upcoming Fall Chem teacher.  Good comments were posted by other students which is a relief.  I hope to survive A & P... hopefully the professors teaching will be good ones when it's time to sign up (Spring 09).

Today, my Chem teacher apoligized to us for teaching over our heads.  He is throwing out a test, and he is going to start using laymans terms.  He was teaching like it was a refresher course.  I am plugging away at it and hope to get an A in the class.  I am almost there, since my last test is getting thrown out.  I got an 88 on my first test and an 83 on my 2nd one, two more to go.

My biology teacher was awesome.  He also teaches the A&P and micro.  I remembered alot of the biology class.  He is hard, but he makes sure you know and understand it.  He is getting me ready for the nursing program that's for sure.

I successfully completed A&P I last semester and ready to get it started with A&P II. Just a lot of studying and true dedication, but good news is that it all pays off in the end. CONGRATULATIONS to you!!

I am taking A&P one this fall semester as wel (starts next week) I love A&P and did good in intro to A&P so hopefully that will help me do well in 1&2. I think the hardest thig is that I also work fulltime and I am taking 10 credit hours this semester, in addition to being a mom and  a wife. I know the next few years are going to be hard but I know it will be worth it. I've got my eye on a goal, I can see it and I want it.  Good luck to eveyrone in A&P 1 this semester!

Thank you for your kind words of encouragement.  There are times I want to just give up, but my passion to be a nurse overrides the quitter in me.  I do need to hear these words though since I am so frustrated with Chemistry and have wanted to quit many times.  Only three more classes left!!!  Should get a high B in the class.

I haven't taken A&P 1 or 2 yet either. However, as of next month I will be taking A&P 1. I admit I am not a fan of math or science. I just made the decision to go into nursing a month or 2 ago. I initially wanted to become a lawyer. However, I realized nursing may be my calling.

For those of you who have completed A&P 1 & 2, would you recommend purchasing flash cards or making my own? I'm open to all suggestion re doing well in these classes.

Thanks!

www.flashcardexchange.com   is the best place to find flashcards for almost any subject. It is free unless you want to download, then it is a one time fee of $19.99 and you can print, download to your hearts content. I use it alot.  Creating your own flashcards are good too. Some teachers pass out study guides and if you create flashcards from these, you should do well.

I finished A&P 1 & 2 in December last year and I did think that they were very hard I studied very hard and got A's in both of them. I have always been a bit nerdy but that class was tough. i just finished (today actually) my first core class in the Nursing program Fundamentals. Wow. that is all I can say about that class. It was intense but looking back even a few hours after the final it was a lot of fun!

I am done with AP1 and am currently taking 2....It is not easy,u literally have to spend hours studying! I was overjoyed when I got done with 1 but 2 seems to be even more challenging,so I'm taking it one step at a time. They are very hard classes and alot of information. The teachers require us to know in depth knowledge on how everything works in every system we cover...I can't wait till it's over!!!!!

Starlit RN sent  a site for an autopsy, have not had the opportunity to watch it but after A&P lecture and lab today..... I will forward it to you.  I think it will be cool.

Da' Boys were playing last night, so I had to study and watch the game.

I wish we could do dissections.  I already asked my teacher about them and he said that we aren't dissecting anything.  I am dissapointed.  Some schools have cadavers, or like some of you, fetal pigs.  I would like to see that site for an autopsy too.  I think that seeing a cadaver would bring anatomy to life for me.  I have a book that shows some real pictures of human insides, but it's nothing like you could see in person.  I go to a smaller school so they don't have the luxury of having what a normal school would have.

My teacher was telling us today about an experiment that she did in A&P when she was in college.

They took and turtle and made it into a quadraplegic. Then they sawed a hole into the bottom of it's shell. They took the heart while it was still beating and they first injected the heart with pure caffiene and watched the heartbeat turn tachycardic. Then they injected cocaine and watched how the heart immediately became bradycardic.

I thought that this was extremely cool.

I will be tha happiest person once I'm done with A & P. I'm currently taking A&P I. I must admit it's time consuming. And per chapter we have about at least a week for each. It's a commitment.

I am in A&P 1 this quarter.  We have tests about every two weeks.  The muscles will be in about 3 weeks.  It is alot of work.  I love A&P, but wish it was a semester instead of a quarter.  Got an A on my first test and waiting to see what I get on my other ones.  Our tests are 4 hours.  A lecture test and a lab test.  It is pretty intense.

Well, I am almost done with A&P II.. in fact my final exam is December 11.  Hard to believe all I have left for next semester is Microbiology, then the core program!  It's been a long haul I tell ya, but I'm almost done....

The school where I attend, we are fortunate enough to have cadavers to work on.  This whole experience has been great for me, as I started when I was 49, and will be 53 my next birthday...
