| Posted over 4 years ago I am almost done with A&P 1. We are on the nerves and our teacher is saying that this is the hardest section of the whole quarter. Great!! I thought muscles were pretty bad. I am learning alot about my learning style. I thought I was a visual learner, but I do better on the physiology part than I do the lab portion. I have one more A&P class and Micro and I am done. I will apply for the program the end of spring quarter. Yay! |

| Posted over 4 years ago I am in A&P 1 this quarter, and it is a lot of work. Although I think chemistry is harder. Anyone taking chemistry that can offer up some advice on it? I am doing great in AP and am really really looking forward to finishing the class. But it is by far my favorite class! :)

I still have to take A&P, but I took chemistry last spring. The best piece of advice that I can give you is to keep working and don't give up. Chemistry is a very tedious subject with all the formulas and equations to memorize, etc. However, if you do not come up with the correct answer the first time, go back to the problem, walk it through, and learn from your mistakes. This way you will not make the same mistake the next time. Some practical advice would also be to do as many practice problems as you can. Usually, chemistry textbooks will have pratice problems at the end of the chapter/section. Do ALL of them. The more you do, the better it will reinforce the information in your brain. Also, I highly recommend writing all your formulas on flashcards and studying them in your spare time. Another idea would be to have a study group if that's your thing. Sometimes it helped me to have a friend and I would talk out the problems with them. Also if I did not completely understand a concept, they could explain it further to me. And of course, it goes without saying that you should not wait until the last minute to study for your tests. Cramming will not help. These are just some of the things that helped me survive chemistry. Hope some of these ideas help. Best wishes and best of luck! |

| Posted over 4 years ago I don't know what most of you are talking about. I absolutely LOVED A&P! It was a lot of work, but I learned sooo much from the class. It has been my favorite class so far. I am a science nerd tho!! :) I had to take Medical Microbiology, Chemistry, A&P, and Statistics and Epidemiology as prerequisites (and a few more). They were all really good classes! I am graduating in December and doing the Accelerated nursing program. Anyone else doing that program?? What School? |

| Posted over 4 years ago I took anatomy last fall and physiology in winter session and received an A for both courses, but it was tough, so anyone who is taking these course keep your head up and take it one day at a time....I found it best to be really organized and when you finished class do a review of what you learned from the day...also I studied my flashcards everywhere I went (ie: grocery store, restaurants etc...) I am taking chemistry right now and we get the results back from our first test and I am extremely nervous because our teacher teaches like it is a refresher course and she doesn't seem care, so I dont know...I have never gotten less than a A in any of the science prereqs so I am scared...If anyone knows of a good way to study for chemistry please tell me....Flash card do not work.... |

| Posted over 4 years ago I am in A&P now and although I dont find it too difficut the way our teacher lectures I am all but failing. She never tells us whats on the test and we test over 3-4 chapters at a time from the Holes A&P book. It is so frusterating to be in class everyday, turn in every homework assignment and then fail almost every test. Do anyone have any tips for passing with teachers like this?? |

| Posted about 4 years ago I am done with both AP I and II!!!!!! Got A's in both classes! I did have to study my butt off to get those A's....they did not come easy. I have to say these classes consist of a lot of reading and some memorization. Many of my friends thought they were difficult classes, but you do have to be disciplined when taking these courses. I found AP II more difficult than AP I, but I got through it....now, Micro!!!! Shouldn't be too bad...I'm sure that's a class I'll enjoy. After that....Nursing Program!! Can't wait!!! |

| Posted about 4 years ago I loved A&P. Yes it was hard, but so worth it. I did better in A&P 2 than I did in 1. They were both equally hard, but I guess I was more interested in 2. Not sure! I just wish we got to look at cadavers. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I finished Chem last semester. I was really nervous, but found it to be not a difficult as I thought it would be. I start A&P I this fall. I am a little nervous and thinking I have bit off more than I can chew. I am also taking Survey of Mathematics, Argumentative Writing and Sociology. On top of that I work 40 hours a week as an office administrator. WHEW!! What a whirlwind! I am currently taking my CNA I class as a night class. I start clinicals July 6. Good luck to everyone! | Posted almost 4 years ago hello all!! I finished both classes (A+P 1 and 2 and chemistry) already. These were tough classes, but nursing sure isn't easy. It to requires lots of hard work and mermorization, and probalby the most important determination. For me the key to making all things in life work is scheduling. I have a planner that has all up coming assingments written in on the due date. I am currently taking an 8wk intensive microbiology class. I'm half way through and it really hasn't been that horrible. I ve made lots of notecards and scheduled everything!!! Good Luck to all!! Keep up the studding!! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I'm starting A&P 1 on July 6th, there will be a lot of late nights studying, I can tell already, just by seeing what you guys are writing. Somebody said to draw pics of the organs and write disease, meds and everything what belongs to it with it. I think that will help the best. And of course those index cards. |

| Posted almost 4 years ago I know I'm being dramatic - but - WOW - there is a ton to learn. I'm feeling really overwhelmed. Doing notecards and it's only our 2nd week - but - I'm concerned I'm too old (41yo) and that I'm in over my head. Do I just memorize everything?? |

| Posted almost 4 years ago There is a lot of memorization in A&P. Nursing school will be different . . . you will have to critically think and that is much harder. Develop a study plan and stick to it. Find a study group. If your text has practice tests, take them. the more you practice test taking the better you will get at it. You are never too old! |

| Posted almost 4 years ago By the way I am also 41, and if I made it through A&P 1 and 2 you can too, just don't give up, late night studies, notecards, writing it out and keep going over it over and over again is what helped me. study groups before tests help out also !! Good luck! |

| Posted over 3 years ago Hi! I have recently decided to pursue a career in nursing and need some advice on A&P classes. My university does not offer any class that combines Anatomy and Physiology. I am thus looking to take this requirement elsewhere over my summer but I can't find any good programs. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks! |

| Posted about 3 years ago Well A and P I think was the most hardest class ive had so far in my whole three semesters in college!!! I have studied my buns for I bought flash cards got an anatomy coloring book and I have even made my OWN flash cards.... and I think and I say think vagly but I think i will finish this class with a 2.0!!! The teacher I have JUST SHOULDNT BE TEACHING IT!!! he gives us our notes as a powerpoint which is great and he dosent make us read the book and follow that but i read in it anyways... the sucky thing is that our test dont even go along wit the notes! I'm taking ap2 in the spring and re taking ap1 in the fall |

| Posted about 3 years ago To compare Chemistry and A&P... well: Chemistry is kind of easy, it's like math: once you get the algorithm you can adapt it to solve any problem. In A& P every chapter is a new thing and often when you jump from one chapter to the other there aren't many links between them, so you can't relax at all. You need to become very efficient in your study techniques, because there is a lot. To do well in A&P you need several skills and abilities. You need to be able to understand processes (like in physics, kind of). You need to memorize terminology and sequence of events. You need to be able to summarize & put together all the info on a topic in something like a chart, diagram, etc. Final advice: if you are serious about nursing, you better start liking chemistry and anatomy :) it's fun , very often overwhelming, but fascinating at the same time. I am taking my final in A&P 1 in two days, and so far the most difficult part of it is the nervous system ; there is just too much info to study in 3 weeks... but i will do my best |

| Posted about 3 years ago A&P is important if you are going to be a nurse. You must do well in it. The anatomy portion of it is all memory. Just read and memorize it all. Do not say you can not. Most young people can memorize all the different steps to win at their favorite video game, so you can also memorize all the muscles, bones, organs and more. The physiology part is the most important part though. You must know how the body works. When you are working as a nurse and you find an abnormal lab value, you must know what it can lead to and how fast it can lead to it. You also need to know what the disease process does to the body and knowing the physiology is important for that. When you start learning about meds, you will learn how they effect the body. Knowing the bodies physiology and how the med works on it is important. As a nurse you do not just blindly give every medication the doctor orders. If you know something can go wrong you have the obligation to question giving it. You will only understand all this if you know your human physiology. It is a lot of study but it can and has been done by many people. John L. Racher RN, BSN, MSRN-BC
