What can I salvage

Posted almost 5 years ago I was in Nursing School back in 1984. I started out as a mom of two with two children and I was married to a Military Service Man. He was deported to Iraq (for Desert Storm) and I really struggled with balancing home and school (I had two semester completed by then and all of my core classes. Well, my ex- got out of the Military and we moved to New York in order for him to attend law school. Once again, I entered a nursing program and I struggled there trying to work and attend Nursing School. He obtained his degree and once again the focus was on the children and on him. Finally, I we divorced and the children were raised. He became a successful Attorney and still I don't have my Nursing Degree and I would like to finish. My question is this: Will I have to start all over or can I salvage any of my education that I started? I had completed about 71 hours in a A.S. program and I want to get a BSN in Nursing. I am kind of discouraged to try but I hate not finishing what I started. I know the desire is still there because I did a couple of internships with Neonatal, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, and the O.R. unit. Anything medical, I am tuned into what is going on constantly. I have retained so much information due to my training. Can someone direct me at this point. |

Posted almost 5 years ago Oh the sacrifices of being a mother and a wife. My best advice to you would be to contact the admissions department of the institution you are wanting to attend. They will know what credits and courses you will be able to keep and which ones you will have to retake. If your credits are from 1984, I'm thinking that you are going ot have to start over from scratch. Try to test out of basic classes though like speech, math, and English. Don't give up!!! You deserve to get your degree and dedicate your life to what makes you happy! Michelle

Posted almost 5 years ago What a great mom you are. Congrats for going back!!!Your kids should be so proud of you and you should be proud of yourself!!I think though, that you may have to retake those classes as it has been so long.G et a copy of your transcripts as a starter, then go from there.Contact the school you will be going to and they can tell you what is the next step.God bless!!

Posted almost 5 years ago Any science classes you will definately have to take over. Most colleges only allow classes like that to be no older than 5 to 7 years old. The rest of them you may either be able to test out of or just do a refresher. Good luck!

Posted over 4 years ago look at www.excelsior.edu they are online except for the 3 day cllinical challenge and many of the schools here in NY use their exams to let students test out of certain courses. This is a not for profit program so they are not heavy into "selling " you a program

Posted over 4 years ago I did not start back to college until I had all my kids out of high school, so I know where you are coming from. Since most colleges have started, take the time to get the copies of the transcripts. Make sure you have all the trancripts from the different schools before you take them to the local college. Having the transcripts when you go to counselor will speed up the process. Good luck.
