Posted about 1 year ago Anyone else out there doing home health nursing? I specialize in pediatrics and wound care but have just recently gotten into the infusion side of it. I would love to hear from anyone else doing home health nursing!

| Posted about 1 year ago I have worked in home care, loved it.I also was nursing supervisor for a couple years.I am back at the hospital, but still love the flexible atmosphere and idea of keeping pt's int heir homes.I feel it is so wonderful for peaople to be able to stay in their homes if it is posssible for them!!! |

| Posted about 1 year ago Hello. I was staying away from applying to Home Health Nursing because I assume that I could get into a position where I would have to lift or help lift a client up. Am I correct? Thanks, KJWRN |

There's that possibility, however, nobody wants anybody hurt. I've been gone from home health for about 4 yrs and I loved it. The money was good, loved working with autonomy, and if somebody was down <as if in a bathtub> we could always call 911 for help. The medics do come out for that too. Thing is, with alot of wound care there can be lifting........i.e. holding up a treetrunk of a leg for dressing change. There's also the constant scenario of doing the head to toe assessment each visit............bedbound patients are huge risks for decubitus ulcers in the 'bad places'. In home health you also learn to 'make do' with what you have on handl You have to call the doc for compliance when you have to substitute dresssing supplies for what you have on hand and write that order so joint commission doesn't ding you. When I left home health, I knew I would miss it......but gas prices were going up and at that time, the facility wasn't talking about upping our gas stipend, and my husband bribed me to make that decision! It's a great job and I'd go back in a second if I knew I wouldnt lose my butt in gas, wear and tear on my car.. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |

| Posted about 1 year ago Have done HH both part time and full time over the last 7 years, got out full time a couple years ago when gas was starting to get so high. Now back to part time while working as a manager in assisted living. Love home health, thinking about going full time, my geriatric patients are needing so much, autonomity reminds me of my critical care days, money is good, scheduling is sooooo flexible. Love teaching the pt and the family and collaborating with pt, ot and MD regularly. working arround my family and school schedule is easier...... wow, i think i will go back full time.... Do take good care of your back, have had two surgeries. still nursing tho and loving it!! e |

| Posted 17 days ago I went back to home health around Labor Day. Still love it, the paperwork still sucks..........but I love the patients. Also, the best job in nursing is home health in the fall and spring in NW Georgia. We only have one heart, take care of it! Angie |
