I have been taking my pre-reqs to get into the (ADN) nursing program. I am a single mother of two and live on a very strict budget with my current full time job. My only option that I have found to get into and be able to finish nursing school, is through a county hospital that offers their full time employees of one year a cut back on hours and ability to keep medical insurance and will pay for a nursing degree if I sign on to be an RN for them for three years. What if I do not get hired on through them?

Has anyone heard of state funded programs or scholarships that will actually pay for cost of living while I earn this degree? I went on an interview with the hospital mentioned above today. I'm praying hard I get the job, although it may cause a pay cut. I've been applying and trying for well over a year, however. I have no clue how the interview went in their eyes.

If anyone has any ideas of how I can manage my living expenses while in school (with medical insurance as well), please give me some tips on how to find it.

Thank you!

I have been wondering about the same things myself only I have four children.  It's really difficult because I had a full-ride undergraduate scholarship and didn't have to work.  As a graduate seeking my second bachelor's it's really frustrating because the scholarships that are available are once you're accepted into a program.  Let me know if you find something and I'll keep my eyes peeled for anything that comes up.

The job with the hospital sounds wonderful; however don't get discouraged if they don't hire you right away!

I know exactly what you mean about being on a tight budget, much like yourself I am too a single mother of two.  I will be attending LPN school full time and working sat and sun's at my current job.  the good thing is I get to keep all my cable services but the bad thing is I lose my health insurance.  I do have health and dental through the chips program, this is an affordable health insurance program for children that has little to no out of pocket expenses.  They also have an adultbasic coverage plan but there is a waiting list.

I have not heard of any scholarship program I to have been looking. Its hard when you are on a budget, I find myself saving everything that I can get like income taxes and stimulus checks.  If you find out anything please let me know.  I wish you the best of luck with getting in to this hospital program.
