Can the goverment restrict where a woman can give birth?

Posted almost 5 years ago Recently, the American College of Ob/Gyns helped to include a measure in the AMA's annual meeitng saying that the safest place for a woman to give birth is at a hospital or birthing center. Because Congress often takes these resolutions into account when exacting legistature, this makes me wonder if outlawing home births is just around the corner. What do you think? Should a mother have the right to choose where she gives birth? Many women give birth at home and have a nurse and/or midwife in attendance - but what about the extreme cases? What if a woman chooses to have her baby outside in the woods? Do we need to take these sorts of events into account? |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I have been involved with a mom that chose to deliver at home with only family and friends in attendance. She had very little prenatal care. Subsequently, she had issues at delivery. The child lived and is probably okay, but who knows?? If a woman wants to deliverat home with a licensed MEDICAL provider in attendance, then great! I really do not think that it is okay, with the advancments in medicine that we have today, for a woman to deliver at home without access to medical care. I know thousands of women back in the day, blah, blah, blah....It's the 21st century and we learned a long time ago that handwashing helped prvent the spread of disease and that more babies survived delivery with medical intervention! |
