Posted almost 5 years ago I witnessed a surgical pt that experienced a discouraging bout of the hiccups over a period of days. We couldn't get to the bottom of it and I'm wondering if anyone else has any experience with this and what they did that actually helped. Thanks! |

| Posted almost 5 years ago I've seen two pt's that got hiccups after surgery. I was told that it was in response to intubation/sedation and not the actual surgery. The one had it for about 3 days. I think we gave thorazine, and that helped some, but eventually it did go away on its own |

That stands to reason, doesn't it? I looked up thorazine and I see that one of it's indications is intractable hiccups. I'll tuck this away in my head in the event that it should ever come up again. Thanks kittyrn! |

| Posted almost 5 years ago Many anesthesiologists and CRNA's will discuss this with a patient as a possible side affect of intubation. It's quite a common occurence, particularly if the patient in question suffers from GERD or if not diagnosed has frequent heartburn |
