I think all brand new RN's should get at least 1 year of hospital experience.  I think it will always look good on your resume, no matter where you go in Nursing.  I'll give you the same advice that I was given and took almost 20 years ago.  Go apply at a teaching hospital and spend a year (minimum) in Med/Surg, or whatever it is that excites you with a broad hospital base.  I learned more in the first year working at a teaching hospital, than I had the previous two in Nursing School.  Most teaching hospitals have some sort of internship for new nurses.   Additionally, your journey of learning has JUST STARTED.  You may have graduated, but you owe it to yourself, your patients, and your profession to keep on building your skills, and knowledge base.
