Hi Everyone~

I'll be entering into nursing school Spring of 09' and wanted to know if it is a good idea to start reading study manuels for the NCLEX-RN? Is it a waste of time to start early without the curriculum, or should I definitely wait to glance over the material once I'm well into the program?

I appreciate any and all thoughtful advice. Thanks!

It isnt going to make sense until you have learned/practised in school/ clinicals. It may even frustrate you more.Try to develop good study habits and test taking skills..Good luck!!

You should start early, but starting before you've got most of your nursing school done will be a waste of time.  Wait until you've got the knowledge under your belt, then start studying a couple/few months before the test.

If you are seriously pursueing nursing there are great tools out there such as "NCLEX Review 3000: Study Software for NCLEX-RN (User's Manual with CD-ROM for Windows and Macintosh)"  which you can begin using- without a nursing background it will be a challange but the CD format allows you to look at the rationale and critical thinking behind the questions/answers and breaks materials down into various disciplines- our students begin using this as they enter the program- NA's in our department who are serious about nursing are utilizing it beforee they begin nursing classes. Best of luck!
