Posted almost 5 years ago Hello all! I am an LPN and have been working in LTC for a little over a year. Well, there are evidently still some things I need to learn but I was wanting to find out something. I got an order from an MD the other day and it was for Kaopectate 30cc po tid X 3days. Well someone a while back had told me that was the same thing as Pepto. Well I gave Pepto for 2 of those days. Well it comes to find out that when i had came in the next day to work on a different hall that the nurse to the hall with that order said she could not find the Kaopectate but there was a whole bottle of Pepto in the drawer. I was like uh-oh. I've been giving the wrong med to this lady who had very bad diarrhea. Pepto is for that but still. I just feel really bad. Can Pepto be interchanged with Kaopectate?
Thanks Angel C |

| Posted almost 5 years ago No, it is not interchangeable.Kaopectate is specifically for diarrhea, while pepto will help, but it's not the main function and doesnt work as well as. |
