Ill and Dying Inmates Released

Posted almost 5 years ago North Carolina and Alabama are two more states who have established programs to release ill or dying inmates to cut prison healthcare costs. In AL, inmates who are permanently incapacitated, terminally ill, or 55+ will be eligible for release (This will is estimated to be around 125 prisoners). Inmates convicted of capital offenses and most sex crimes aren't eligible. What do you think of this deal? With overcrowding prisons and skyrocketing health costs, is this a good idea? If these released inmates then go on Medicare, isn't the cost the same since now the government is paying for the healthcare? |

| Posted almost 5 years ago There is a problem with overcrowding in jails in prisons, no question. What will happen when these folks are released is that they will hve no where to go, will have no health care, and will most likely be right back in the jail within a very short time. Beleive it or not, some will committ a crime so that they will have a place to live and someoen to take care of them. There are more people in jails and prisons in the United States than in any other place in the world. |
