I have been a graduate nurse for 12 years .

I failed my boards twice and then got really depressed

Since then I have married, have 3 boys one of whom is disabled and consumes most of my time.

How hard would it be for me to go back ad take the boards at this point? Can I take my boards again ?

Or do I have to go back to school, does anyone know for sure.

I was told i could always retake my boards and refresher courses but  my college classes would have expired if I went back for bachelors.

I have an associates degreein apllied science.

I have been working part time as a unit secretary on a busty med surg floor  and really think I have gained much knowledge just from  that.

Thanks!

Contact your state board of nursing.  Start pullng out those NCLEX books and start going over them.  And a refresher course sounds good too.  And as far as your classes expiring I am not sure.  Did someone say that because you are not a RN yet?  I know a RN who went back to school to get her bachelors and she was out of school for 19 years.  Does your old nursing school offer a a bachelors program?  Maybe you could just go back there and get your bachelors.

Talk to your board of nursing. I had credits over a 20 year period and I went to a BSN program where they took all my credits. I was an active LPN at the time, but stiil I had credits from 1982 that they took. I think it depends on the school too. One school I looked into was going to try to put me in remedial courses for everything! They were trying to make some money. I chose not to go to that university. It was suposed to be a bridge program too. When all was said and done, I would have paid more money and spent just as much time getting my AD RN as my BSN RN. Good Luck!!

Thanks for your replies. See I gradauted nursing school back in 96  and  I have been completely out of the loop for 12 years, I am just afraid they will say I have been out of school too long. I would  not want to  do nursing school all over again! I would just like to see if th eoption is still open. I will call the state board. I live in NY
