Posted over 4 years ago I am getting alot of discouragement from my family and friends about going to school for nursing. comments like: Nurses wipe old people bottoms, oh its too hard you would never make it? why would you want to go to school for something hard like that? So I told them all i'm no longer interested in pursing nursing. But i am gonna go for it ANYWAY (without any of my fam or friends knowing) i dont need discouragement. I am tryin to figure out whether to do LPN or RN? I figure Nursing is hard but it cant be if so many people are Nurses??? Besides i want a career helping people. i am single 30 and i have no children unmarried. I want to do it while i can now!
Any advice, thought comments?? |

| Posted over 4 years ago People still have no idea what nurses do. It is amazing. I still get the ignorant bed pan jokes. Just let them know what nurses do. Go for it if that is what you want. It sounds to me like you really wnat to do this. Do not be talked out of it. You will never regret it. |

It still amazes me that the public really does not understand the scope of nursing.Nor do they understand all the technical and physical aspects of nursing.I wish, i could get somone to follow me around on a typical day, to see what alll is really involved, and how mentally tasking it is, but also how fun and rewarding it is. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Im going thru the same thing too ConnieN. Im 25. My sis is 21 she is going to college 4 pharmacy and my whole fam brags about it. But me mentioning the idea of pursing nursing seems to be a bed pan joke to everyone! Nobody knows im doing nursing either. I say just do it! and when your done watch everyone be envy of you. your single, unmarried and accomplished your dreams like i am. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Isn't it amazing the stereotypes which continue to haunt nursing? For any of us facing the "bed pan" images etc- make it your mission to educate the uninformed of what today's nurse is, and isn't! |
