Well I will start of this group by saying that I have been working this shift full time now for a little over a year. I had an opprtunity to go to day shift but I am not sure if I really want to. I like being able to do my job without so many people breathing down my neck! I do miss being able to socialize more with co workers and having more time on my days off, now I spend almost a full day sleeping, I have one more day then back to work-ugh! I also feel that sometimes I am overlooked because not many people understand what it actually is that we do on nights. Many of my coworkers have made comments about it being such an easy shift and we have more time to sit around. Little do they know!

I worked nights for 2 1/2 years and really liked it. I had many opportunities to go to days, but chose not to. Too much stuff going on during the day shift. Too many doctors coming in and changing orders, writing now and stat orders, patients going for procedures, dealing with family, and nurmerous other things. There was also too much drama on days. There is alot on nights to do other than sit around and play cards. LOL Which is what seem to think night shifters do. On the contrary, night shift is NOT easy. It is a different atmosphere, but there is plenty to do and deal with.

I do work days not in the OR, and I'm loving it, but would never work days on the floor.

I have worked 7p-7a  or 11-7 for a little more than 3 years now. I switched when I thought I was going to get accepted to the nursing program. I am in the program now and graduate in May 2009. I am currently a CNA II. On my job 3rd shift does alot of the work. It seems that day shift and 2nd shift think we do nothing but sleep all night. The 3rd shift nurses are responsible for QAing all the charts. CNAs are responsible for stuffing the charts and most of the baths to be done between 4and 6. 3rd shift is responsible for pulling charts for the doctor and appointments and making all copies of MARs and diabetic and vital sign flow sheets. 3rd shift is the best shift at my job. It is the shift with the least confusion most of the time.
