Posted almost 5 years ago I have been doing a ton of questions... but i have heard the nclex is nothing like the nclex review books. What is the real best way to study and become prepared for this challenging exam? |

Posted almost 5 years ago There is a DVD Program "NCLEX 3000", has 100's of NCLEX questions broken out into different categories- explains rational behind each answer- the NCLEX is truely based on the ability to critically think- not memorize....heck the last ten questions I didn't even understand but could think my way thoug them...Good Luck!

Posted over 4 years ago There's a lot of NCLEX review books out there. I found the Saunders Comprehensive Review for the NCLEX-RN Examination by Linda Anne Silvestri to be very good. Lots of information- I'd even recommend this book to current nursing students as a supplement to their required textbooks. Diane

| Posted over 4 years ago the best review book is saunders which helps you to start from the basics, but kapalan review course is very good becos it gives you test taking , model of nclex exam with 1000 of quetions how to choose priority, appropriate answers......and mosby is also equally good

Posted over 4 years ago Think positive robbarado! I agree with monapaul. I took a Kaplan review class and used the Saunders book. I think both were worth my time, money, and effort.

Posted over 4 years ago My honest opinion is this.......know your material from the beginning, study hard all through your courses and above all, learn to think like a nurse.

Posted over 4 years ago I'm in the same boat. I want to sign up for Kaplan but am kind lacking in funds right now. I told my family that paying for my Kaplan class would be a great graduation gift. Most laughed at me when I told them the price. But I think they are going to pitch in and pay for it. But me and Saunders NCLEX-RN Review are best friends. I used it for my last med surg classes and boy did it make things easier to understand. I still have to send in my info to take NCLEX but I hope to be able to take it in Nov/Dec of this year.

Posted over 4 years ago Saunders is cool. I thought the questions were kinda easy tho. I like that mary hogan comprehensive review. Those questions are hard. Also... I was gonna ask about that NCLEX 3000 CD. I went to best buy and borders and was unable to find it. Does anyone know where i can locate it?

Posted over 4 years ago I agree to them. Saunder's is really a good book. That's the book that I am using now. But I also enrolled at Kaplan and took my review for 3 months here in the Philippines. They have a good training esp with the practice test and will give u two books. But to be honest, I like the Saunder's more than the Kaplan book. And add to the preparation, the practice test! As what they said the more practice test you've answered the more you will be prepared. Best of luck to us who will sit for the nclex exam this year!;)

Posted over 4 years ago What really helped me was using the saunders NCLEX cd timed test, and going to the pearson vue web site where I paid $35.00 for a three week course. I passed the first time with only 75 questions. Make sure you read all of the rationals for all of the questions. Doing so is a great learning tool. I hope this helps someone.

Posted over 4 years ago 8 of us in nursing school got together and put in $25 each to hire a tutor. She was a nurse educator that had written test questions and helped develop course curriculum for several nursing programs. We had a 3 hour session with her (only paid for 1 hour but she extended the time for us, kind of a nurse bonus) and it really helped. She showed us how to break questions down and defeat them - it was FUN! She would give us 10 questions, then show us why we answered them wrong. All 8 of us passed on the first try. Good luck to you all!

Posted over 4 years ago I'm no dummy and I did earn my RN degree, but all the Mosby, Saunders, and other NCLEX books that I bought and studied didn't come close to giving me the understanding I needed to pass the NCLEX examination. The others were knowledge- based. The NCLEX, I learned from the Kaplan home study course, is critical thinking, priorities, and stragtegy-based. They don't teach you that in school. It IS very different than the knowledge-based tests we all took in our classrom nursing courses. Kaplan even shows you where you cannot fully rely on only your clinical experiences either. The questions, and sample tests teach you how to acquire, understand and use the specific strategies in order to pass the NCLEX. They are clearly explained and are consistent. They also include question from the test that I had seen previously. I took the test 3 TIMES and failed with the knowledge base I got in class. After I bought, studied, and applied the Kaplan course (Three texts and 300 pharm flash cards), I passed!!! I only wished I had gotten the Kaplan course the first time around. Like most students, by the time you get through the RN course, there were no funds left . I finally got mine online for $387.00. It is well worth every cent!!!

Posted over 4 years ago PearsonVue has a review book and cd-rom that helped me a lot. I went with them because they are the same people that administer the test and the CD uses the same method of CAT that the NCLEX uses. Also, the book was only $35 and I was broke! It has a three level testing system that evalutes your weak areas and gives more more questioning in those areas. I followed the steps and when I took the mock NCLEX on the CD, all four times it stopped at 75. Then when I took it for real it stopped at 75. The type of questioning was very similar to the real test. Good luck to everyone!

Posted over 4 years ago I just took NCLEX two days ago, I got the full 265, and knew 2 of them. I had 3 questions about Viagra, the proper way to put on a condom, Lipitor, and Crestor..... you dont even give those drugs in the hospital setting, esp not viagra!!!! The priority questions were NOTHING like I had been studying. There were no patients in need of emergent care, they were all sick, but just sick, so it was hard to pick the patient the nurse should go see first. Needless to say, I failed. I payed again to take the test, but Im freaking out because none of my study books are good enough. Where can I find the pearson vue books and cd, I googled it but just got there tutorial for nclex. Can I only buy Kaplan at a book store? Im nervous to take it again, if I get a test similar to this last one I will fail again because there seems to be no way to prepare for it. Please help

| Posted over 4 years ago there is really no way to be prepared for taking the NCLEX, you just have to have faith with yourself that you have the knowledge and skills to be a NURSE, after all we did go to school for it =) based on my experience with the exam, i do agree with you, that the questions are not even close to what we learn, should i say it some what "out of this world", they asked you questions that you least expect it. my advice is just relax, do not pressure yourself to know everything. strategies that i used is that i familiarized myself with new meds, especially with Parkinsons, Alzheimers and also the one that they are showing in TV commercials (it's funny but crestor and lipitor is all over the TV as well as VIAGRA) when it comes to prioritization, always use ABC (airway, breathing, circulation), it doesn't matter whether if it 's emergent or just a plain prioritization on which patient to visit/see first... ABC.... and if ABC does not apply with the choices, use Maslows Hierarchy of needs. DO NOT over analyze and learn to do elimination. READ, READ, READ... you don't have to memorize, but understand the process. the things that i need to memorize i memorized it using mnemonics... if you want i can provide you some or maybe post it here. with books, Saunders Comprehensive Review for Nursing and KAPLAN's blue book is very helpful. you can purchase saunders in any bookstore, but KAPLAN i think you can only purchase it when you sign up for the review. hope it helps.... goodluck!
