I am studying for the NCLEX right now and took a class after  graduating and I was told that you need to do at least 90 questions per day.  To take a notebook and  do 30 questions and then score them.  In the beginning do a comphrensive variety.  After you score them on the ones you miss write beside it if it was a Peds question or Med Surg or OB or what ever and look after a week and see what your weakest link was.  If you did well in everything but Med Surg then that is what you need to study, don't study the subject you are good in just to make yourself feel better.  Now start to break it down if it was Cardiac question or Endocrine question you missed write that after it and see again where your weakest link is.  Now study that.   Also write after it if you missed it because you didn't trust your first instinct and see how many times that happens. When you are consistently getting a 75% then why aren't you taking the NCLEX.  I am going to schedule tomorrow and take it hopefully in 2 - 3 weeks.  Hope this helps

I'm just new here, and I'm having my self-review right now. I'm on a dilemma of what review books do I need to read or to purchase.

I submitted my requirements for ARKANSAS STATE BOARD. I need to wait for my eligibility to take the test and after that I need to have my formal review in a review center here in the Philippines..

Could any one give me any suggestions of what to do? I'm using FEUER audio cd and that's it..

I need to pass my first exam..

Please help me..Thanks!

When I took the NCLEX four years ago, I was a single Mom with 4 kids and working full time! I used the Saunders NCLEX book . I tried all the others but now that I have been there done that.....Saunders was the most like the real thing. I also paid a company called the HURST review. It was available on line with printouts. It quickly reviews content while making it very entertaining and they will refund you your money if you don't pass. I don't know about you but at the end of two years, I could not tell you one thing I learned from the first semester of college!

Saunders is still the best NCLEX review book. But its QnA is easy.

i took my second take of NCLEX exam like dec. 17, 2010 and luckily my best ever gift for christmas. and until now still not believe that i pass it. i took the maximum question the 265 and after 2 days i got the result. i read the SAUNDERS for my concepts and everything but i used kaplan for the practice questions. piece of advice: dont use the sauders questionnaire for ur practice in nclex. use the kaplan. saunder is so easy. but kaplan is really good as a training ground. i dont know. but i used kaplan. just relaxe and dont give up. i give up and in my first take that y i failed. always pray. if u failed, god has other plan. keeps on trying!

You should know your learning style by the time you've finished nursing school.  Go with that to go back over nursing content.  Then answer as many questions as possible, and study the rationales.  That is the tried and true method most people find successful.

I think studying small chunks at a time can be effective for many people. I love the NCLEX study cards. You can take them with you, and when you are sitting in a traffic jam, you can even take out a few cards and learn. The small steps, works well for most people.

Do that everyday until your test schedule. That way your building nclex muscles needed to pass the exam.

Hiya, I have heard Kaplan has good and bad reviews... It's like consumer investigate first.. Also there are great review books... As far as an outline goes, I'm not sure, but you may be able to do a search online and find some... Best of luck to you and please keep us posted.. Teresa

I graduated in 1995 with an assoc. in nursing.  I have not yet worked as a nurse, although I finished my clinicals.  I am interested in becoming an RN or maybe start out as an LPN.  What is the best way to prepare for the test?

pixie,

You say that you have graduated. I don't understand your question about the exam. Are you asking about both? Are you planning on sitting for the LPN exam 1st?

As far as studying goes, you have been out of school for 17 years.. You may want to take a refresher course to assist you with your studies..

Best of of luck to you, Please keep us posted.. Teresa

Teresa,  the refresher courses I found were if you already had your license.  I do not have mine.  Would starting out as an LPN be the best route to take?  Is the Kaplan course enough?
