have been in nursing for 10 years, working a variety of departments, but find I still gravitate to er nursing. Have only 6 months experience in er nursing, but want to get more experience and work in er. Any advice as to what kind of training I should get, ex: ICU experience, ccu experience, etc. ? Thank you for any information anyone can send my way.

There is no place to get ER experience other than the ER itself. Working in other specialties can help in the fact that you'll be comfortable with those types of patients, but you'll see everything in the ER. Many ER's require a host of certifications be attained and maintained such as ACLS, TNCC, ENPC, PALS..etc. You likely already have acls if you work in the ER, but Tncc is very helpful as well.

I started working in the ER cause basically I hate everything else. LOL You just have to junp in and work there. You have your basic assessment skills and you just put them all to work as you have many different people come thrugh an ER setting. I have to recert for PALS tomorrow so sent most of my day off reviewing and taking the pretest required for the course. So, just transferr to the ER and get started. I can't imagine working anywhere else.

i plan on becoming an ER nurse, but I will work not in a hospital, but with an air ambulance service... a flight nurse. I have to have at least 1year of ER/trauma experience before i can go into that field... but i look forward to it very much. I enjoy working in a fast paced enviornment, and what better way than with an on scene emergency crew.

Notanurseyet, then you will not be an ER nurse if you will not work in a hospital. Your post is a bit puzzling since you say that and follow it with needing ER/trauma experience. Can't get that anywhere else but the ED.

Most air evac services - at least in this part of the country - require a BSN and certification as a paramedic.
