| Posted over 4 years ago Weeell, Urology is close to Nephrolgy isnt it??? As a urology nurse for the last 3 years I have had my share of kidney cancer, stones, infection, cysts and more. We deal with the kidney down to the urethera and everything inbetween. neph usually handles things like metabolic d.o. and failure correct? |

I would say they are close, after all, all systems have to work together right? nephrology is focused on preventing and managaing kidney disease, failure, etc. where I work, everyone is on dialysis, some are waiting for transplants some are not, most have many coexisiting illnesses, so we have to look at the whole person. As any nurse would. what type of experiences have you had? |

| Posted over 4 years ago Well, cmh25 you have 2 months experience now. So I am sure you have specific information and or questions now. I can tell you that I consider myself rather new to hemodialysis as I have approx. 2 years hemo in a clinic and will be returning to this work on Monday after nearly 1 year away. Are you in a clinic? Are you working in a hospital? Chronic patients have different considerations than those who are Acute in hospital. What was your training? I know some clinics will train because that is how I was trained. There is a book about dialysis if you are interested I can get you the title. I look forward to hearing from you.

| Posted about 4 years ago hello dean123, i have now been off orientation for 3months now :) I am in an outpatient clinic. At this time, I am just absorbing it all and trying my best to keep orgainzed.. my nursing skills will become fine tuned as time goes on and as i work on them. the main issue now, is all the darn paperwork. I will be spending a day at the access center local to us, so i can see the in/outs of how the access's are placed and fixed, etc. I can't wait for that. The training was all done on site. I went away for a class specific to dialysis theory. I have been looking for a book at the local bookstores but they do not have much if anything for dialysis. I would appreciate your reccomendation of a book. thank you and welcome back to dialysis :)
