Just wondering how many of you out there are dialysis nurses? Thought this might be a good place to talk about frustrations, salaries, work load, etc. How many of you work for corporations? independents?

I worked in a freestanding chronic clinic for 9 months.  It was the longest nine months of my life.  And I've been pregnant.  Twice.  ;-)

It was just soooooo not for me.  I constantly felt like I was stuck in the lunch rush at a McDonald's except that if I screwed up an 'order' in all the chaos, I could very easily take someone's life.

The money was great, but I found it a very demanding position with a patient population that I had a very hard time connecting with.

Sorry you didn't like it. I've been in it for 12 1/2 years. I  enjoy long term care of patients. Also, really like the autonomy that it offers.  It does have it's ups and downs tho, just like any area of nursing. When I worked in the hospital, (small rural hosp) I worked all the areas because I wanted to know what was going on everywhere.  It's easier to know what's going on everywhere in a chronic unit.

Where do you work now?

I tried to get on with two groups in GA. Turned out they did not want me. I guess they didn't want me. Never ehard from them and they had an ad in the paper every Sunday. Did not even get a "Thank you for your resume but we have found a candidate who more closely fits our needs" bull shit letter.

I'm a stay at home mom and college student at the moment.  I've accepted a position (part time) but it doesn't begin until next month.   My first love is psych.  I'm finishing up my bachelors in psychology now and trying to decide if I want to continue on to a masters in health admin or try to find a school nurse position where my children will be in school.

I originally had applied for an acute dialysis unit in a hospital, but didn't get the position because I didn't have any critical care experience, which is how I would up at the chronic unit.   In retrospect, that hiring manager was absolutely correct, but she should have passed on me altogether.  ;-)

I've applied many times both in OK and MO with a nationwide dialysis provider, and never gotten an interview, just an e-mail kiss-off letter.  I don't really understand why, with my critical care background, I would seem to be a good fit.  Has this happened to anyone else?
