I work 3-11 mostly, but every now and then I pick up 11-7 shifts. Mostly they are doubles and sometimes I feel like my eyelids want to be glued to my cheek bones.  I do alright if I get enough sleep the night before. But alot of the time I do doubles back to back and I feel like the world might just be the best place if it had supersized beds with fluffy pillows.

I have tried coffee, energy drinks and pure adrenaline.  It is hit or miss though.  And I live an hour from my job so at 7-8 am . I am almost brain dead.  Tips anyone?

I am a true 3rd shifter.  I can not function waking up early. Not everyone is cut out for 3rds and to be honest it just comes naturally for me I dont drink coffee or anything.  I try to do things to pass time.  Since I have been here at work tonight I have completed all my work charting etc., and since my unit is full there will be no admissions and I prepulled my am meds, swept and mopped day room and bleached all door knobs and counters now I am talking and spending time with you guys!!!!!!!

I think if i was on 11-7 full time I would be okay. as a cna that was the shift I worked. but when I work 3-11 religiously it throws me off. I am not a morning person by any means.  If I am up at 6:45 in the morning I am almost through with my shift otherwise I am sleeping blissfully.

You have to bleach the door knobs?

My little OCD germaphobic issue.  Our pt that come in here are not the cleanest many homeless or have self care neglect.  We see a lot of TB HIV MRSA etc.  so I will not sit in a chair or touch anything till it has been cleaned by me.

I understand the germaphobia. when I get home from work. Take off my scrubs in an entirely different room than I sleep put them in in a basket only for my scrubs. I wash my hands so much that they feel chapped.  I didn't think about bleaching door knobs though. That is a good idea. Especially for staff who have an aversion to soap and water.
