Posted over 4 years ago I have been in Mortgage business for 20 years. I recent passed CNA boards and currently enrolled in college to get my RN degree.I am 46 years. I am too old to start a nursing career? I am interested in homehealth care, 20 years ago I was a CNA doing home health and I enjoyed the flexablity. My mother and all my sisters are nurses. Any suggestion or recommendation welcomed. |

| Posted over 4 years ago 46 is young...I knew a lady in her 70's that went back and got her RN. If you are motivated, go for it. Give it all you have got, and you can do anything you want to A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

| Posted over 4 years ago I don't think 46 is too old! I was 49 when I started my CNA courses, and almost 51 when I finished and got my first license. I'm 52 now, and in a BSN program, and I'm not the only grandma in the program. Home health rocks for us more mature types, go for it! |

| Posted over 4 years ago I have to agree with the rest of the group. You're not too old to go back to school. While I got my RN at 40, it was a second choice for me. I had already gotten a degree when I was 20, but didn't like the job choices then. When I saw job changes going on at work, I decided to go back for my RN at 39. I finished the ASN and then continued straight on for the RN. 10 yrs after I started the RN program, I've decided to go on for the MSN. I think you're never too old to go back to school and plan to continue classes after I get the degree, although these now may be more of the "fun" kind rather than actual degree programs.

| Posted over 4 years ago I agree that you are not too old. The average age of an RN now is 44. We are living longer and for many we have to work longer til we retire. Good Luck!!! |

| Posted over 4 years ago I dont think you are ever too old if you have the desire and the passion. There were several people in my nursing class who were over 40. We had grandmothers, military vets, firemen. I think that it is great that you are starting on this journey. BEst of luck to you. |

| Posted over 4 years ago Sunshine- don't let your age be a barrier. Go for it! I was 47 when I took my first (ever) college class. I graduated with an ADN this May at the age of 51. There were many women (and men) in my nursing program that were 40+. |

| Posted over 4 years ago It doesn't matter how old someone is to go into nursing. All you need is the right support and confidence that you can do it. Of course, the work will be harder as we, ah, mature. I haven't been back to school since 2001 and am returning for a different bachelor's degree, hopefully the BSN. And, I'm 47. So just look at things with a different perspective, like this is what you want and just go for it! |

| Posted over 4 years ago To echo Tami's wise post, look at things from the perspective of what you want, and go get it. I understand the issue of going to school, or going back to school, but there's a way to do whatever matters to you. I'm one of those folks who knew from birth that I was meant to be a nurse, so went directly to nursing school out of high school. At the ripe old age of 51 I decided to add to my diploma education by getting my BSN - it was a GREAT experience. Now I am 56 and deciding where to go for my Master's. Am I too old? Not a chance! |
