I was never a fan of John McCain; I was going to vote for Hillary. I will  never vote for Obama. I'm from Illinois and I know who and what he is. He is product of our corrupt political machine. We sent one governor to prison and the next is going to be indited soon. Barack chose a running mate that is old washington politics as usual. Barack did nothing in our state legislature in Illinois, he ran an uncontested race for the Senate seat he holds. He was in Washington less than 4 months before he announced he was running for President. He has no experience, he is all talk. He can give a great speech but that doesn't mean he can actually do the job. McCain was brilliant when he picked Sarah Palin. She is a mother, a christian, and has experience. She is also not from Washington. She has a proven record of fighting for what the people in Alaska need and winning. Winning against the establishment. She is exactly the kind of person we need in Washington. She will help keep McCain honest and call him out when he's doing the wrong thing. McCain is trying to show the American people he wants to make changes and he's not going to be business as usual. If he was, he could have picked any number of people for the VP spot. He was bold and daring and surprised people in Washington. They are pissed because he didn't follow protocol. I love it. I love Sarah Palin. The more I know about her the more convinced I am that she is exactly what I want for the VP. I have to ask; if people question her experience and are worried about her being the VP. How can they even consider voting for Barack Obama for President when he has less experience than Sarah Palin.

Okay, this confuses me even more than anything else. This is in no way an attempt to slam you because I don't get involved in the mud slinging done in the forum and am trying to have an honest discussion.

Anyway, you don't support McCain but supported Hillary but now are voting for McCain based on Palin. If you look at the political issues of Hillary Clinton they are far more comparable to Obama. Hillary and McCain might as well be standing on opposite poles on the Earth when it comes to so many political issues where Obama, while he may not always agree with Hillary, does have a tendancy to lean in the same direction as her (and I don't mean liberal vs conservative) which leads me to wonder how Hillary supporters go for McCain. And I don't think we can slam Biden because he's "old school politics" because although he is older, the same as McCain I might add, his views are closer to that of Hillary.

I also don't look at the "years" of experience because I think there are talented, intelligent, leaders out there who didn't run in the Senate for years and years. I don't knock Palin for her years of experience but for her beliefs, morals, and where she stands on political issues. I think so many of us forget that although yes there is a President of the United States, they can't just do whatever they so choose. They have to work w/ Congress, the Senate, and the Supreme Court.

Thank you. That is the exact point that I and several others were trying to make when we were bashed for picking on someone’s nursing skills. I never once bashed anyone’s skills. There are many nurses on this site that I work with and that I have had in the classroom so I do know their skills. However, this would not be the place to point out any problems if there were any.

Is this the place to point out prejudices and bigotry? You betcha. Particularly, if you are the person who brought up the debate. if you are going to be judgmental of women and tell them they should not have abortions or should put an aspirin b/t their knees, you will be called down.

One more thing:

Let me try once again to see if I can clear up the point about the “attacks” on spelling and grammar. It has absolutely nothing to do with anyone feeling superior or talking down to another. Such thinking and thoughts do nothing but cause animosity as we have seen in the old and tired LPN vs. RN topics that we are all sick of.

First, know that anyone can come online and see what you have posted. This includes a future employer, coworkers, a future spouse, or maybe even a university that you have not applied to.

Secondly, when you are in a debate, you need to appear to have some intelligence. You need to be able to put sentences together and even if you are not correct in your presentations you can have some semblance of being on tasks. This particular person was jumped on not solely for his poor grammar and spelling. HE was not jumped on either but his post. The post was glaringly full of not just poor spelling and grammar but misinformation. His posts, like other posts that I have seen here or full of hate and bigotry.

Thirdly, I posted it before and I will post again. We all make spelling and typo errors. However, when an entire post is full of such errors it does reflect on that person’s intelligence and abilities. Given two applicants with every thing else being equal, I would choose the applicant who can write. Why? We live in a law suit day and age. If a patient’s chart is reviewed by attorneys and the chart is full of glaring errors, which nurse do you think the attorney will put on the witness stand and rip apart?

Fourthly, we are nurses who are always fighting for others to see us I the same professional light as doctors are seen. When is put out there in writing for millions to see that is full of curse words, grammatical errors and gross misspelling it only contributes to the poor image of “changing bed pans” and letting the doctors make every single decision.

Will an occasional misspelled word or a typo be our down fall? No. should anyone have any fear of being bashed for posting on here on this site if they make a mistake? No. again, that is not the point. Hope this clears things up.

If your sole reason for supporting a candidate is that he/she supports abortion, that in my opinion is a poor reasoon for supporting a candidate.  Abortion is never going to be made illegal, all the supreme court justices would have to drop over dead, and a complete majority in both congress, and the senate would have to exist opposing abortion. It's not going to happen.  It didn't happen after 8 years of Reagan, and 12 years of two Bush's.   Barack Obama hasn't done one thing, that anyone of you can recite on his resume.  He has sung the song of 'change' since his college days, and he isn't anything other than a middle aged motivational speaker.   He has no foreign policy experience, he has no bi-partisan experience, and lets face it those are two big things that any presidents needs to accomplish anything in the White House.

As far as anyone's spelling errors....I personally, don't give a hoot about anyone's spelling.  I don't see any good nurse not getting hired because they didn't use spell check in a  political debate.  If  nursing was actually a competative market, maybe.  I don't know any experienced nurses that wouldn't get a job, because of anything typed on this website.

Sorry, everytime I see "Irish", I can't help but think of something Barack said in his book 'Dreams from my Father"  He was talking about making phone calls to black ministers during his time as community organizer page 279 "Whenever I first reached them on the phone, they would often be suspicious or evasive, uncertain as to why this Muslim- or worse yet this Irishman, O'bama-wanted a few minutes of thier time. "

I was not speaking of not being hired for spelling errors on the website. I am speaking of maybe an employer would see what you have posted here and take notice of poor manners, cursing and name calling. That my friend could cost you a job. Once again, you are not getting the point. If you were having your notes read aloud in court, you would give a hoot. And if your notes were read aloud making you look like an idiot, the patient's lawyers will give a hoot. They will take all of your loot.

Many Employers Google Potential Employees To Gather Info - What Will Your Search Say About You?

You are ready to apply for that dream job and have everything you need from a stellar resume to a suitable suit.  Although you may think you’ve covered all your bases, did you know that many employers Google potential employees to gather more information?  Consider what your Google search might say about you before you leave for that big job interview.

Although the Internet can seem like a virtual playground, the information you share online is very real and can come back to haunt you down the road – such as during a major job interview.  Start by Googling yourself to see what you come up with.  Are you less than satisfied with the results?  Do your best to eliminate your name from negative Google searches by updating your profiles on MySpace and FaceBook or deleting controversial blog entries that you would never want a prospective employer to read.  Remember, even though you may have posted your entries for the benefit of friends and fun, your next employer may also have access to your questionable quips after a simple Google search.  Make sure you land that dream job by Googling yourself before you go so you know you are presenting a positive image everywhere you go

It continues to amaze me how little thought people give to their online reputations. It's been more than a decade since the birth of the modern Internet — many of its users don't know a world without it. And yet they're still clueless.

You've read time and time again, I'm guessing, about how high school and college kids are being warned about what they put on their Facebook and MySpace pages. Writing about your drunken binges is not the way to the fast track; schools and employers have accounts too.

Despite the press, the idea still hasn't sunk in that the Net isn't a private place. In the aftermath of the shootings at Virginia Tech, for example, students and the owners of Facebook complained about journalists who quoted or contacted students based on what they wrote.

It was as if they suddenly forgot the social part of "social networking." Remember: When you say something in public, you don't get to pick and choose who can see it. (For what it's worth, the American Journalism Reviewpraised the use of Facebook and MySpace as good reporting.)

It's more than just your own websites and Facebook pages you have to consider. You also need to think about what you post on other sites and message boards.

I mentioned once before how we'd Google job applicants when I worked for the American Chemical Society. More than one was passed over in part because of saying the wrong thing in the wrong place.

You could use a false identity, but guard it carefully. A juror in the Julie Amero trial sent a message to one journalist using a handle instead of a name, but because he used it so often, it was easy to track him down.

Some online message boards include your IP address with your posts, partially as a security measure. If you get an e-mail from someone — and thus his IP address — you might be able to uncover some of his messages.

And then there's just opening your mouth. It's not just George Allen and his "macaca" comment that can land you in hot water.

Take Tiffany Owens, a former cheerleader at Allen Central High School in eastern Kentucky. When an argument about the display of the Confederate battle flag erupted in her town, she told an Associated Press reporter, "I have colored friends around here and they never say anything."

Google, "tiffany owens Kentucky", as a potential employer might, and see what's at the top.

Building haystacks

George Allen has a football and political career into which his "macaca" comment will be mixed. But at the moment Tiffany Owens is, Web-wise, a nobody. Because there is so little about her online, her "colored friends" comment stands out. The haystack is small, so the needle shines.

You can always be on the defensive, being careful what you say or write, but the fact is we're all going to say and write stupid things, and we're all going to have opinions with which someone else disagrees.

The best practice in the age of Google is to make sure that your controversial stuff online is overshadowed — or at least balanced — by the rest.

In other words, it pays to go on the offensive and take some control over what people see about you online.

I recently had a little tiff with my veterinarian and posted my experience to my blog. Within a day, if you searched on the vet's name, my site was in the top five of Google's search results. Since then, thanks in part to the vet's employees posting comments there, my site is in the top three.

That's poor reputation management. There simply wasn't enough about the business online, so my messages catapulted to the top of the list. The better response would have been to try to flood the tubes of the Net with blog posts and other Web pages talking herself up.

But my now-ex-vet didn't even have a Web page, which is a bad idea these days. If you're a small business, even if you don't need a website, you need a website. Otherwise your reputation is completely in the hands of anyone who wants to write about you online, good or bad.

When a comment about you on a small blog is the first thing people see when they search for you, you need to spend some time on your cred.

The bottom line: Businesses and individuals need to be proactive when it comes to their reputations. And it's more important the smaller the business. It doesn't take much more than a dissatisfied customer with some Web savvy to wreck a company online — and it doesn't take much negative material online to wreck a brick and mortar operation.

Actually, the title of this THREAD...not POST...is   McCain's VP pick .   The next thing you read is the thread starters question, which is:

"So, what are nurses thoughts on McCain picking a woman for a VP running mate? Was that a smart move or an act of desperation?"

Did I miss the part where this thread was supposed to be all about supporting McCain/Palin?

To answer the thread starters question...I think it was a sexist, conservitive man's way of thinking that women were going to be too stupid to realize that he was choosing a female to try and sway their vote.  Although I'm not a huge Hillary fan...Palin doesn't hold a candle to Hillary or Obama's intelligence...just for starters...there are more..but I could go on and on..

Totally stupid!!  We are women not morons!!  My view of Sarah Palin is that she is a hockey mom as she always keeps telling us,  she sure loves guns and the excitement of the kill though...that doesn't make me feel comfortable.

I agree with CD Nurse.  Palin acts as a dumb blonde.  She is nothing like Hillary. Nurses should vote for who they like and I respect their decision.  However for me I have personal issues as to why I am voting for Obama.  For one as I stated before he is on our side as far as the nursing profession goes.   I am a regular floor RN and I am sick of having days with no lunch or breaks. The ANA is in support of Obama because they both will work together to make changes for the better.  I also want to see everyone with healthcare.  I have it but It is so sad that so many do not.  Obama also is promising to provide 1 billion dollars in aid for Autism research.  There is very little now being done for the autistic population.  As a mother with a daughter with austism I am concerned that this is the lowest funded disorder.  Go Obama!!!
