Hey every one, Im christina and I really wanted to ask some onf you who have been care giving for many yrs. I am working at this one place and I just have a bad feeling about it. is it ok for one care giver to care for over 13 people and more at time in an 8 hr day? May be its just me, but I feell its way to much and they need more care givers in there. Im not going to school for that but needed a job. SO PLEASE ANY ONE HELP ME OUT ON THIS.  HOW MANY PEOPLE SHOULD A CARE GIVER CARE FOR BY LAW?????????

No it isn't ok, but it's the way it is for right now.  Things are changing, particularly since California has established nurse to patient ratios and other states are beginning to follow.  Personally, I think five patients per care giver would be ideal and 8 should be maximum.

Unfortunately dmazment's statement is correct.

The state of healthcare is in dire need of help to care for people.

When I was a nurse assistant 15-20 patients were in one hall and typically that was all handled by 1 nuse assitant.

hope this helps..........................................................................................................................................................................................

Are there any guidelines about how many patients and RN can treat/pass meds? What would be appropriate in Acute care and then in SNF?
