I feel like I'm late asking this question, but I have been a pre nursing student for a while and I still feel a feeling or level of uncertainty. I want to know what are some important questions that you (the reader) have asked yourselves that helped in solidifying your decision?

What is it that you are uncertain of? Are you uncertain of your choice in nursing?

Maybe it's because you're learning alot of new things and dealing w/people who have their own problems. Sometimes people bring their problems to school/work when they really should leave them at home. I think no matter what profession a person chooses, there will be doubts from time to time. Give it some time and if it's totally right or wrong, you will know. Believe in yourself and your ability to make good decisions for yourself. Usually if you're doing something right, the devil will have to jump in and try to confuse you and make you doubt yourself. Let us know how it goes.

I'm not  sure of specifically  on what branch I would go into but many times it can be discouraging due to the input I get from others. My thing is my  reason for doing it, isn't the typical "I always knew I wanted to do this", in fact I would prefer more up close and personal contact with the environment. I just don't want to experience burnout. Not trying to make excuses, just need to know I'm I the only one who thinks like this?

trying to pick a certain field you will like is hard, try med/surg and take care of a variety of patients then you may see which kind of care is of interest to you.

You're a pre-nursing student and worried about what speciality to choose?  My advice is this.  Go through your courses, give your all to every single one and it will choose you.  Remember, you don't have to choose a speciality until you start working and even then it could change once you gain experience and confidence.

Ask yourself why you want to be a nurse?  If you can answer it easily then do it.

There are many different areas of nursing and you do not have to like all of them...decide what specialties you are drawn to and enjoy the most  ... when you understand that , you may find it easier to say NOT:  geriatrics,Psych, ect   & then ,DEFINATELY:  Peds, OR, REHAB,ect.

I see you guys point, must admit had never thought about it like that, thanks for the boost of coinfidence. I suppose thinking that I had to know everything at one time was a bit discouraging. One day at a time: is the motto.

For me, it didn't solidify until this semester (2nd).  Now I love it and can't imagine doing anything else!

I like to think that clinicals is the trial period in which I get the chance to see many different areas of nursing before I decide which one I want to dive into when I graduate. So far I have liked them all and have had a hard time deciding. But I still have a while to go so time will tell! Good luck!
