Posted almost 6 years ago I started as an LPN and then went on to earn my BSN and MSN. When I say EARN, I mean EARN!

Posted over 5 years ago oh yeah! especially the RN's who throw their "I am a real nurse" attitude around. I have worked with many great nurses and many poor ones, most of the real poor ones have been RN's as many have said, and are told that they are better than LPN's. I have been an LPN for a looooooooong time but there are times that I can run rings around many younger RN's and I find that there are many RN's and LPN's alike that have disrespect for each other. I believe that nursing is a team sport and all nursing staff are important in their roles. I have learned much form LNA's, RN's and even houskeeping staff....everyone in the team always deserves respect...not because of advanced degrees, or if they ara an RN, BSN or APRN because we are in the caring profession, we all can learn from each other and when I say that I can not learn more then it is time for me to say, "would you like fries with that sir"

Posted over 5 years ago Well lets throw another kinck into the matrix. I am a male nurse and started nursing school in 1971 and graduated in 1973. My digs came from non-nursing people that I knew (or so I thought) and that was the gay issue. It was assumed that a male nurse was gay. Why else would he have gone into nursing. Not so!!!!!!!!!. I love nursing or I would not have stayed one for 35 years. My son decided to go into nursing 3 years ago and graduated in 5/2007. He has not experienced that attitude yet. I can assure him that it is only a matter of time.

Posted over 5 years ago Yup, just a matter of time. I still hear it. "Is he gay?" Where did this come from. I have never heard anyone say "Is she a lesbian?" when they are speaking of female docs.

Posted over 5 years ago I agree that nurses should work together...I to was and LPN for 8yrs before getting my RN and I know LPNs that can run circles around some of the RN's I know....but, RN's are more responsible for things than LPNs and I also think that LPNs (some of them) should learn some respect and know their place....I had to.

Posted over 5 years ago I feel that LPN's don't get the respect they deserve in the world of nursing, I have been in a room with an RN and someone would come up an ask can I speak to a nurse, people would instantly direct that person to a RN, I have a problem with that and would voice my opinion by saying well what am I? In my eyes LPN's and RN's jobs are no different in some environments. There are RN's out here who don't have alot of common and don't know things I feel they should know, those are the ones you can run circles around. I have been blessed to work with some great RN's who respect my knowledge and imput when it comes to doing our jobs. No one should have that LPN's are not real nurses attitude, because just like the doctor's, RN's, social worker's and etc. LPN's are part of the team too and most of us are good advocates for the patient's we take care of.

Posted over 5 years ago I have been called the "Let's Play Nurse" and I have referred to RN's as having "RN"itis. But the bottom line is I (and others) only respect those who do their jobs. I have met LPNs and RNs who have been terrible. I want to pursue my RN because I feel as though I would have more oppurtunities in research and education.

Posted over 5 years ago Snowman,I am not sure how to take this comment. My place is beside you, the doctor, the dietician, the housekeeper and the volunteer making sure the patient gets the best care possible. I'm sure that's what you meant.
