I have been told that I need to invest in a good pair of compression stockings, but I have also hear that u only need them if u have problems with your legs. Now I am only twenty yrs old and I dont have any leg problems. I am wonder what the compression stockings are for and do u think I need to get some. I am in the nursing program now and they say that we start our six hour clinicals in october. Also they say that we can not show any skin or wear any kind of socks unless they go up to your knee. I am not much into wearing pantyhose. And I am young and into wearing socks that go below or just cover the ankle. Anything else would feel uncomfortable and it would agravate me. I do own a pair of knee high pantyhose but they dont fit right and they fall down after only a few steps. I am a small statured person and that may be why they dont fit. But  i was wonder if you think it would benefit me to get some compression stockings? Any help would be great.

For compression stocking to fit properly they have to measure your height and the circumference of your calf. These are made to help increase the circulation in your legs. If you already have trouble with vericose veins or your ankles swell, I would recomend them. If not a good pair of support hose should do the trick. They are also making socks now with some of these features. So shop around and see what you can find.

Compression stockings are also used to prevent circulation problems in your legs for those of us who are on their feet for hours at a time.

WandaD told you what's involved in getting fitted for them.   I have worked at many facilities that require you must wear socks going midcalf calf or to the knee.  They've said it was an OSHA standard, I don't know, I never bothered to find out.

I was really thinking about getting some support hose or something. I have been having problems with cramps in my legs at night off and on for the past year or so. I don't really know if it has anything to do with me being on my feet all the time or not. I thought it might be worth a try to see if this would help eliminate the problem.

I've never heard of it being an OSHA standard.

I understand it being an OSHA standard. I know that you cant show no skin. I dont have vericose veins and I dont think my feet swell. To tell the truth I have never had to be on my feet long. Do you think I should get some just in case my feet and legs do hurt me. Also does it help if you are on your feet long and your back starts to hurt. I know that happens to me. I dont know what to do. Your replies were understandable but i still dont understand the purpose for compression stockings. Please help some more. thank you

Compression stockings are used to improve circulation and improve the backflow of blood in the lower extremities that can lead to varicose and spider veins. Even if you don't have a leg or circulation problem, the benefit is that they make it less likely that your legs will be tired and aching at the end of a shift. Try them - there's some good information about measuring/purchasing them at About Compression Stockings. There are several brands, such as Sigvaris, that have trendier patterns and lighter weights so they don't look like heavy thick hose.

You dont need to have issues to wear compression stockings.

Many occupations when you sit or stand for a prolonged period of time are advised to wear compression stockings.

Athletes wear compression socks as well and many runners wear them every day.

I like wearing compression socks when traveling as my legs will feel much much better.

I also wear recovery compression socks after running.

A good site to buy from, great service, fast shipping, great price: www.LegsTherapy.com

Any questions, please ask me !
