Bad attitude? WHAT?!

Posted over 4 years ago So, I was talked to the other day for a bad attitude and unwillingness to work?!? I am a CNA and have been for almost 2 years now. I love what I do, I love caring for others that are unable to care for themselves. I go to work with a good attitude no matter what else is going on in life and that shows through to my patients when I get comments like "I love you" and "I'm glad you are here tonight". I don't understand WHY someone would think that I have a bad attitude and am unwilling to work, when a call light goes off and if I am at the nurses station charting or whatever I jump up from my seat and gladly go help them, I don't even bother with answering the call light phone thing that we have because it's just as fast for me to jump up and go to the room. I help the nurses out with WHATEVER is asked and don't question them or refuse to do anything. I always have a smile on my face when I am dealing with a patient and am verty encouraging to them. Why else would I get the reaction from my patients that I do get? If I had a bad attitude I think that it would show through to the patients wouldn't you think? I am just sad about this and am taking it pretty hard :( I feel that I should be able to ask for specifics because if I don't know what I am doing wrong then I don't know what to fix?! Thanks for letting me vent!

| Posted over 4 years ago So ask! If you want to know what the problem is then ask. It may not be you. It could be a new pt. or family of a pt. who just doesn't understand you and thinks you had a bad 'tude, who knows? A case of mistaken identity, maybe? If you've been there that long with no complaints then I'd certainly be looking into it a little more. Good for you for taking care of your pt's like that! Keep up the good work! |

| Posted over 4 years ago Ask is right. You need to ask for a specific example of your "bad" attitude.. Just telling you have a bad attitude is not going to fly. |

| Posted over 4 years ago I would definitely want specifics on why they are labeling you with a bad attitude. I'm sorry this is happening to you. Hang in there A good man loves other. A better man loves God. A great man loves God and lives well among others! I miss you daddy!

| Posted over 4 years ago I agree with everyone else, you have the right to know what others feel is your "bad attitude" qualities. I think if they can come to you and say it then you should be able to go to them and ask is it that I am doing wrong. I hope everything works out for you. You sound like an awesome CNA. MICHELE

| Posted over 4 years ago I agree with everyone. You have to ask. Because if they mistook you for someone else than that affects you.. You sound wonderful though ao keep up the hard work and do some detective work.. It may turn out there was a mistake, and if that the case then you deserve an apology. | Posted over 4 years ago I was spoken to by the DON thats what makes it a huge deal for me, it wasn't just the nurse coming to me and talking to me, she went to the DON :( I asked her and I was told that when I was asked to do something I said "huh" or "ok" but it was I guess taken in as a bad attitude :( Oh well, how I will just say
"YES" In a very cherrful way, or Absolutly with a huge smile on my face?! :) Thanks for the kind words :) |

| Posted over 4 years ago Sounds like someone who doesn't have enough to do! If you've been there awhile and never copped a 'tude with anyone and always did a good job as a CNA (which it sounds like you have) then I personally don't see any reason for complaint. Some people just have to stir things up. Heck, if I had a problem with it everytime someone said "huh", "ok", etc. to me then I'd NEVER get finished complaining! I've even said it myself. Just keep up the good work and don't let them get to you. |

| Posted over 4 years ago You've been working there awhile now and they're just NOW noticing how you reply???? Their bad. How incredibly petty that the DON is neglecting something important in order to nitpick on a word here and there. Her loss, not yours. As long as your patients are happy, keep in mind you're doing a great job. Smile at the idiot and laugh under your breath...she's not worth your time or energy.
